Just tell the partner your plan.

Yeah I know, just don’t wanna burn any bridges. But I really want to properly communicate that I’m leaving with the other partners and associates I work with and to help the transition rather than leaving everyone hanging. So either way I’ll have to confront him and potentially tell people even if he says not to.

The other partners you work with and your colleagues deserve to know you’re leaving so they can plan and properly transition your files. Unless you’d seriously consider staying based on a counteroffer (never a good idea), I’d just shoot a quick email to the partner you gave notice to, tell them that given your departure on X date you plan to start informing your coworkers and transitioning your matters. Your reputation and professionalism is on the line here.

Agreed! That’s exactly what I did and I’m making my rounds now as we speak. So far everyone has been supportive so that’s refreshing.

Did you post this a while back?

Yeah but it’s been a week and I was not sure how to proceed lol

Follow up today with the partner via a phone call. If you get his VM be specific as to what you’re following up about. It’s likely they they’re working on the details of a counteroffer. This happened to me about a year ago. Best decision I made was to stay and take the counteroffer. They’ve not let me down on promises made to keep me happy.
