Gave notice to my existing employer about exiting the firm. They are asking if they can match the offer. Should I accept the counter offer? Currently a senior consultant for adv analytics in healthcare consulting. TC 150k Offer is 280k TC as Senior Data Scientist at Zillow.

Lol what? They are going to match an offer that is 130k over what they’re paying now?

likefunny

Well, I've contributed a lot to this team.

funny

I don’t think they saw the new TC amount before saying that they would match haha. If they did they mean that they’ll match base, not RSUs. Long story short don’t take the counter.

Got it D1. Definitely agree with your suggestion here

Go to industry! You’re going to want to later in life and then it’ll be a whole ordeal again to try to find something in industry (finding a job is a full time job). If it’s the same pay and something you’re interested in, get out of consulting when the opportunity is presented to you!

Got it D2. Industry is always better

Wtf take me with you

Any advice on how you got the offer? yoe?

like

No. If they're underpaying you by that much, then they're assholes and you shouldn't work for them anyway.

Within industry true but not compared to consulting. Any utilized role is directly revenue generating.

SC1 do you have any advice for how I can start in data science🥲👉🏼👈🏼 post baccs or boot camps etc. I don’t have a comp sci degree and want to switch from the business consulting I do right now

I also don't have comp science background. I would urge you to worm more hands on and do the math to start doing data science. That's what i did

What are the benefits of working at a small law firm (about 10 attorneys) as opposed to a midsize firm. What is the difference in the amount of work/ billable hours, benefits (health insurance and PTO), opening doors for future career opportunities, etc. I have an interview at a small law firm, which is not what I ideally wanted, but I am considering it because of the COVID uncertainties. I appreciate any kind of guidance.

I’ve been told by my firm that I need to get a corporate amex card. I’m new to consulting- can I still use my own credit card to get the points and expense that way? If it’s the corporate card can I still get points for it also or does it only go to EYP? Curious to know if a corporate amex is even a good thing or the benefits for it. Thanks!

Advice needed-I’m 30 weeks pregnant and constantly getting dumped on at work (in industry now). I’m high risk (gestational diabetes & hypertension) and have been clear with my all male management team that I’m high risk. Still, they are steady trying to pull me into new projects while I’m actively leading one of the most high profile projects in the org. From a career standpoint, I appreciate it, but I cannot physically keep up the way I used to and feel like I’m risking my and my baby’s health.

I see plenty of people go for a walk during the day, yet I hardly see any of my teammates appear “away” for 15/20+ minutes. I recognize that not everyone is in consulting, but can’t imagine that *none* of those walking are. If so, how can I feel comfortable stepping away to prioritize my health and well-being when so few of my teammates do so?

My wife makes 112k and I make 70k in NYC. She plans to go to law school in 18 months. She is very smart and so I believe she will get a scholarship. But assuming worst case scenario, we will take on debt to pay tuition (180k). My question is should we still fund our Roth 401k this year as we have in the past or stop funding it to save for Law school to decrease student loans? I believe post law school she will make 200k (big law) and I should be at around 100k.
