I’m currently on a Secondment at a PE firm (100% utilized, 6-9months) and my partner still asks me to help out with BD/sales at EY. I’ve said no several times and now she’s becoming demanding. Anyone else think plaintiffs’ attorneys in employment law cases are in part holding back employees’ rights movement? We won’t go back to the 1960s socially, so why do they insist we go back to the 1960s economically, like the jobs today are (or somehow should be like) basic factory line jobs of yesterday that have to be treated with the same outdated wage-and-hour laws?

Started at a new firm right at the end of feb. It's small with a couple of offices. Is it acceptable to take off 7 days of PTO in October? Our PTO does not roll over and I can't get compensated for the days I don't take. I'm usually of the yolo opinion but also worried it will make me look bad to be out for over a week (Thursday Friday one week and then Mon-Fri the next week)

What are your success stories about succession planning? I was hired as a lateral to work on/help sustain a retiring partner's book of business. During my interview in 2017, he said his target retirement would be 2019-2021. Now, after a good 2020 (for our practice area), he mused that he might not retire until 2025. I don't want him to feel pushed out, and have a lot to learn from him, but I do want to help/plan handoff of work. Interested in guidance for how to have these conversations!
