A more casual dress is a great perk of working in most tech shops. Don’t show up looking like a slob, but you can 💯 rock your latest score from stockx

It is fine to wear sneakers. Most don’t wear blazers. I am female gen x. I wear fashion tennis shoes and all birds sometimes. I tend to dress up more than my younger male counterparts.

Why not sneakers, sneakers are fire

like

Dude I wear shorts and a hoodie to the office what’s all this blazer talk

likefunny

I wore sneakers today. Nobody cares

If it's a real tech company, people wear jeans, t-shirts or casual shirts, and hoodys or jackets.

Nobody will be wearing a blazer. More upscale foot attire is at your discretion, but sneakers are generally the norm.

like

Also isn’t allbirds kind of a part of the techie uniform

like

I swear, allbirds is THE tech shoe of choice

funny

Fellow Gen Zer... Depends on the nature of the firm. Are you at startup or a major corporation? What's the dress code/vibe/culture at your office? Are you front office/client facing or back office?

like

Just avoid anything Ye branded...

I’m part of gen z. I always wear a full suit or a dress/shirt and skirt/trouser with blazer. Shoes always heels or flats.

funny

Yes. I went through a Chucks with a suite phase at some point. As long as the sneakers are clean and aren’t like “running shoes” you should be fine.

like

Sneakers like Toms might be ok, but not weekend running shoes.

smart

I do it at J.P. Morgan 🤷🏻‍♀️

like

When we were in the office it was practically pjs 😂

like

I’ve worn nice sneakers, slacks and a button down in plenty of corporate offices, and Tech is usually even more laid back

like

Imo blazer is too formal. I’m at a start up and we wear hoodies all the time

like

If I’m at a conference and dressing up more than usual, jeans, tech t and blazer is my go to ‘uniform’. Would only wear a blazer to the office for a special day—mtg with execs, important presentation—and still with jeans or similar.

like

Not for day one. After that, just look around and see what is appropriate

like

I wear shorts and a t-shirt. Think you’ll be fine

like

Totally!

like

Loafers and dress shoes instead of sneakers

Yeah, have to disagree. Only if you’re in sales or consulting. Been in tech for 15+ years, never owned a pair of loafers

likefunny

Worked in all kinds of tech, on days I have presentations I’d wear a blazer and sneakers! Days where I’m just going in to get work done hoodies and sneakers. I kept a blazer in my desk just in case but no one really cared

Has anyone figured out how to not feel absolutely horrendous when you wake up? I dread mornings because waking it so hard for me.

I prioritize getting 7-8 hours of sleep (this is the best I can do at the moment with work and a small baby) and I’ve stopped drinking because even 1 beer seems to make the morning 10x worse. Anything else I can try?

The first rule of overemployment is dont talk about overemployment to anyone outside your house. :). Second: always protect the main job. Third: As the main job always has the priority, the Second and third jobs must preferably be contract gigs with not too many meetings everyday. Remember: another day, another dollar.

I'm hearing that some companies are making it mandatory for tech employees to return to the office although none of the work they do requires them to be in the office. Is your company making it mandatory to return to the office? Mine isn't.

What are your thoughts about having to take an iq/personality assessment tests? It seems so outdated to me. I don’t think it predicts how you will truly perform at a job. I took a test like this for a startup once and they were concerned about my ability to speak up or behave in social settings. This was completely false. I present, interview clients, demo products, and facilitate meetings for a living. So what if I go home and shut down after work? I’m exhausted from speaking all day!
