Maybe they’re Luddites and don’t know how to do it themselves.
Having been given this role in the past, I always saw it as more of a way to own the server. If anyone ever had any questions on where something was, they came to me. It gives people a better sense of organization and file management
Sometimes not everyone on a team is familiar with the organization and naming structure for the servers. In that case it’s best managed by a specific person or people to ensure things are stored properly and remain easily accessible.
I totally hear that, and bless the PM folks that keep everyone organized, but I’m more so talking about situations where client partnership (aka account) is sending stuff to a strategist to put on the server. It seems...backward?
You’re over-thinking this. File management is best left to people who know where to put things and can invite, give permissions and circulate to the people who need them. You need a Valium.
😂 sounds like someone who likely does this. It literally has nothing to do with permissions or circulating information. But let me go take a Valium and kick my feet up for a bit to see if that helps explain other people’s behavior!
“It comes down to lazy or power” ... well.... duh. Are you looking for something more profound?
Just trying to find an answer that creates some empathy so I don’t judge teammates who do it to their peers. See the good and all :)
There may be a level of ass covering. At the CD level, many decisions are driven by fear or avoiding making mistakes. By handing off a seemingly simple task, if some mistake in file organization is made, no matter how small, they have someone else to blame.
But also, power.
They can't figure out how to do it
Yes!! It’s one thing if someone has already told you where to save certain things and that’s not being done. But to have an email open with an attachment, then take the time to write to someone else to tell them to save it when you could have just saved it yourself makes no sense to me....
