Genuine question: Is there a position/job where there is minimal to no meetings notetaking? Obviously not my favorite thing to do so want to know in order to manage my expectations.

I’ve been in consulting for 20 years and still take notes during meetings. Comes in handy - more than once I’ve had to refer back to some meeting where a decision was made (months ago) and verify who was in attendance when everyone around me claims to have amnesia

Are you a believer in "if I don't write that down I'm going to forget to do it"? I would be extremely surprised if you could find ANY job where you didn't have to write anything down so that you remember to do it or remember what someone said. Taking notes during meetings is exactly that.

I can see the challenge. It’s kind of a double edged sword. Taking notes is distracting and draws your attention elsewhere - but nevertheless it helps keep the facts straight and frankly needed to « CYA. ». One possible suggestion: are you in a position to record the meeting so you can pay attention now and review later? May be best of both worlds

Obviously the higher up the food chain you go the more you can delegate meeting notes. I personally try to stay engaged with the conversation and meta in the room and note only follow up items. Ymmv

My experience is the more senior you get the less your do it directly. You'll still want you own notes, but often you are leading the conversation and thus taking notes is harder
