Unlikely, but also consider that in that bracket you’ll get hit with ~40% taxes off the top, HOWEVER: those taxes take care of healthcare, retirement, and unemployment insurance.
German here.
Nope. - And yes, higher taxes. Social security is about the same as in the US. Healthcare is more expensive and unemployment taxes are higher, too. COL is lower unless you’re in a city like Frankfurt, Düsseldorf or Munich. Gas is about $6-7 per gallon but groceries are cheaper and have much higher quality. Also note that German contracts are very binding for both parties. No 14 day notice. And you’ll get 30 days vacation.
A1 - that’s why you pay higher taxes ;)
You can expect between €90k and €120k for SM depending on your target city and negotiation skills. This salary would put you in the top 2-3% of earners in Germany. Apples to apples, EU salaries will always lose to the US. But consider the benefits, most important being free healthcare, pension, way more vacation and better worker rights when it comes to maternity / termination / unemployment / overtime restrictions. I moved to Germany from the US four years ago and I don't regret a thing.
PS1 - agree. Work life balance is much better. You’re not treated as a production machine, like in the US.
I love living in America, wouldn’t want to go back because Germany is too crowded for my taste. But I sure do miss the European lifestyle.
OP this where you pile money away into your accounts then move abroad. Every other developed nation in the world will have higher taxes, higher COL, etc. But the lifestyle is much better.... free healthcare, better education (US public education isn’t comparable anymore), better work-life balance, better benefits, etc. So you save lots during the grind in the states then move to have a better life with a lower income (which shouldn’t matter because you have saved)
OP, how did you calculate TC in US? Is it just salary and bonus or do you add anything else?
