Getting married with a citizen while on h-1b visa - do I need a lawyer or can I deal with the documentation myself?

I will say as a lawyer myself navigating this administration’s immigration policies and now with COVID, it’s worth the money to hire a lawyer. Immigration law in the US is a field of constantly shifting landmines right now. Don’t make it harder on yourself than it needs to be.

We would, because we do this every day. I have no personal stake in what OP does.

If you don't have legal insurance you can bring your paperwork to the uscis center. Just set up an appointment and they will review your application.

Thanks, didn’t know this.

Come on we are consultants, plus this a well-covered topic online

I did it myself. I however did use my Hyatt legal plan for an attorney to look at my application for free. It’s a lot of work that you’ll have to do anyway, just have a lawyer look at your application.

I did all the documentation myself. There are YouTube videos and sites that show you how to prepare all of the documents. It will save you about $2k.

I did it myself too. Save the $$. I didn’t know we can review application alone with an attorney but that’s a great suggestion.

Congrats!

Thanks for the suggestions :)

It's not that expensive, I'd say just get a lawyer.

Thanks!

My H1B visa transfer with EY has been approved. We have received the e-approval. Can I now resign or give notice at my current firm? The guidance apparently is to wait for physical copy of the approval before officially resigning. But that date is uncertain and I’m afraid I could get the physical copy a day before my start date or a week after that. I’d like to give my firm around two weeks notice and I am scheduled to start on 27th Sept. Thoughts? As usual, radio silence from my EY recruiter.

I am almost 2 years into my H1B. They haven’t started my I140 but when I joined told me that I would be eligible in a year of which I am coming up on in this Oct. I got a new offer today but they told me that they would apply I140 after a year from when I join. The pros of the new one is TC more than 18k with sign-on of 15k (not sure clauses for this) and better wrk-life bal). My question is, how long into H1B is it advisable to have an I140 applied for. Would 3-4 years into my H1B be too late?

He is now resting with angles up in the heaven and I miss him a lot ❤️.

Have an offer that pays ~$350-450k a year, but is very bonus heavy and about 25% of that or more will be restricted stock and options. Making ~$350k now all cash. And the way it’s structured, in the first year I’ll end up being ~$50k short for the year of where I would be if I stayed. Also requires a big move to a location I’m not too keen on. WLB is better, probably 50 hours a week but need to be plugged in 100% of the time. Any considerations I haven’t really thought about? What should I ask?
