Getting my first review notes on an engagement... Ouch. Not taking it personal, but is it normal to basically be torn apart at first?

As a senior I still get my a.hole ripped by managers and partners in review notes

like

Sorry OP, it happens. Don't worry too much about it. Just try not to get the same review notes over and over again. Managers expect you to miss things but they also expect you to learn from it and be better going forward. You got this πŸ‘πŸ»

^ what about when the comments end up turning into a fucking guessing game and you get corrections back over and over again with no direction or even direction that is contradictory? Not very helpful

like

Yeah, just do your best. There's always at least one crappy manager that somehow climbed the ranks and just doesn't actually know how to communicate or run jobs.

Yes - my first workpaper had over 30 notes and now im a senior known for good quality. Dont take it personal, learn and take notes.

I just got shredded for my first engagement. Has had me down in the dumps hard. Second engagement I got glowing reviews. This should make upcoming round tables interesting 😐

Yes it's 100% normal and I wouldn't let it bother you in the least bit. You learn through clearing comments. Just make sure you aren't getting the same comments over and over and you'll be fine.

Speak to the reviewer if you don't understand the review notes.

The reviewer hates me

If you're brand new, it's not uncommon to get a ton of review points on the first few things you work on. It's one thing if the reviewer is being mean or snarky, but if you were just given a long list of comments, that's not getting "torn apart". That's being taught how to do the job properly.

Grant Thornton 1 - do you guys have anonymous upward feedback? Not that it's a cure-all, but it at least gets on record her behavior, and hopefully you have partners that care enough that they won't tolerate managers treating staff and seniors that way.

Normal. Think of it as constructive! Keep your head up... if you ever get AQRed it's for the best.

AQR?

I give comments for a reason - want you to learn. It would be easier and faster in the short run for me to correct everything.

^keep it professional. Request a 15-30 min Appt on their outlook calendar to discuss this client. You can't hash it out via responses to review notes

Do you engagement is over at least I believe it is. I got really good reviews on my other engagements so hopefully roundtables won't be a total disaster but I know she's going to go in there and annihilate me

She's condescending. Rude. Gives me shit at 3:30PM due by EOD everyday. Contradictory. Tells me I can only ask questions to certain people. All kinds of shit

Remember the first time I audited cash as a 1st year. Thought it was pristine until I got ripped a new one (respectfully) via review notes. 😭😭

@baker I'll look into it. Been talking to my coach. Maybe he can help..
