Getting reaaal tired of pressure from family to get married and have kids when I have enough to worry about at work. I feel like in 2022 we shouldn't have to deal with this. crap. I don't get a party for getting a promotion but when someone in the family has their 5th kid it's all anyone can talk about.

Throw yourself a promotion party! I wish someone had told me in my early 20s that house, kids, marriage, etc are not the only milestones to reach or celebrate. It's a tough tide to turn but keep swimming.

So there is hope : )

This could sound controversial but I just can’t view having a 5th child as an accomplishment unless it’s also tied to the growing financial stability to support more children, i.e. career promotions over the years. As in, income plays a big role in whether it’s a “Wow, they’ve achieved so much and is able to support a 5th child! Good for them!” rather than a “Wow, they’re having their 5th child? That’s going to be tough..”

like

Yeah it's kind of irresponsible otherwise

It sucks to get pressure from your family about this stuff but as I've gotten I understand it more. You can only derive so much satisfaction from your job, for most people their family plays a much bigger role in their life satisfaction and most people have an optimal window in which they can get married and start having kids. Most people won't care about being remembered for their corporate job.

Same here.

Sheesh, sorry to hear that! I'm in the same boat

I know how hard family pressure is mental. I also experienced such a situation. If you prove yourself and speak rationally, maybe they can understand you. Or you can get a 1+1 flat by working in an extra place.

For anyone who has implemented some form of leave for miscarriage during pregnancy, have you had to navigate the debate of how much time to grant a colleague who loses a baby, versus a colleague who loses a spouse (i.e how your pregnancy loss policy stacks up against compassionate leave)? Keen to know how senior leaders respond to the movement for granting sometime 2 or more weeks off for losing a baby, where their standard compassionate leave may be e.g 1 week. Thanks!

My agency has a long meeting discuss promotions. This is the 2nd time I’ve been part of it, and last time no one said “no.” There’s an account VP up for promotion who is smart, kind and organized but lacks leadership. This would be her 2nd promo in 2 years. Would I sound like (and be) a dick for saying anything? Obv her boss thinks she’s ready.

I recently found out I’m being paid less than a coworker who started in my department about 2 years after I did, and also has less experience overall. My performance reviews have always been stellar and I’ve never received anything but positive feedback. I would like to discuss with my supervisor, but also have an interview coming up for a promotion (within the same department). Should I discuss my current compensation before the interview?

For those of you working from home, do you know whether your coworkers will be throwing a baby shower for you? I feel like without being visibly pregnant to most people (since we are not in the office), I feel like I’m going to miss out on having one which is kind of a bummer since I’ve always gotten gifts for others.

NYS I work for NYS, I have been able to get interviews for the next step up position, I'm currently an 18, I would like to move to a 23. What are good interview strategies to use when looking for a promotion.

Received an offer to lateral to a big firm. The benefits package includes health, dental, disability etc. but no mention of their parental leave policy. I don’t recall my current job spelling that out either in my offer. Im not planning on having kids in the immediate future but I am curious of the policy at the new firm. Fair question to ask or will it scare them if I do?
