I mean, it’s kind of what the market will bear. I’ve found hourly rates matter more for contract work (aka via another agency/firm) than for direct client work, which tends to be project based. Fees vary widely based on 1) client’s industry and budget, 2) what they’re asking from you, 3) how tight the turn is, etc.
In my experience, agencies are comfortable with a ~2x multiplier on freelance rates so work out what your typical hourly rate would be if you were employed by an agency and then work back from there.
