Getting staffed on a year long project with extensive travelling while I am pregnant. Do people travel during their third trimester? Or is it better to reveal it? I am 9 weeks pregnant.

I would do only what you are comfortable with. This is the one time in your life where you can put your foot down. You are growing a human.

My wife had to travel for work during the beginning of her third trimester, although it wasn’t weekly travel so she didn’t object- but I felt really bad for her because I could see how difficult it was. I’d talk to your doctor to understand implications of the weekly travel, because you also don’t want to over exert yourself while pregnant. So figure out what you feel is best for you and the firm should accommodate you accordingly- perhaps they can put you on a local or remote project once you’re further along. Whatever you do, do not hesitate to raise this with your leadership, they will and should accommodate you Congratulations and best of luck!

It depends a lot on how the pregnancy is going, how you feel and how long the flights are. Even with no complications, my doctor suggested stopping at 36 weeks for domestic and 32 for international. And many things could result in a recommendation to stop earlier than that (anything from twins to unusual placenta position to high blood pressure.) And many people (including myself) stop traveling before that as it can get really uncomfortable especially in economy. You don’t have to disclose now. No project needs 7 months notice to find a backfill and the lead on a 1 year project should expect that some changes in staffing will happen. Do it when you feel comfortable or think it’s needed, which might be whenever you decide to announce to friends and family, when you feel it’s starting to look too obvious to hide, or when you need to discuss accommodations with leadership due to illness/complications.

I wouldn’t reveal it yet. Wait till month three— just to be safe. Good luck to you!!

No need to reve it yet, but once you do reveal it, you should definitely discuss the travel burden down the road. You have no idea if you'll have complications later in the pregnancy, and even without complications, it can be just very uncomfortable in third trimester. I would err in the side of caution by setting expectations that you will not travel weekly in third trimester and will stop traveling completely at (32 or 36) weeks. It's easier to set expectations around this upfront for the team to plan for this than to not bring it up until you start feeling uncomfortable.

Just be aware that an airline/individual pilot can choose to not let you in the plane in your third trimester. (risk of going into labor w/o adequate medical care). So I say join the project. Make your pregnancy known when you’re comfortable, and then, when you hit your 3rd trimester, you decide. If you don’t want to travel, you can always play that card. If you feel good & want to carry on, go for it (& make strategic use of clothing & carry one, do you don’t get grounded. 😬)

I think I’m falling for my mother in law. The feelings aren’t necessarily sexual in nature. They seem to be much deeper and emotional feelings—which I get would concern my wife more so than sexual feelings. It doesn’t help that everyone thinks my MIL finds me to be her “favorite” in addition to some other complicating nuances. Obviously, I won’t act on these feelings, but as the years go by, the closer we’re going to get since she’s around a lot and we talk quite often when we’re alone.

I only plan on staying in consulting for about 2 more years then off for an MBA. Would it be more worth it to take a level and pay raise at a different big4 moving to senior level rather than going to associate/analyst level at MBB? These are my two choices at the moment. I want to position myself best for post MBA jobs in industry. Salary will def be lower at MBB compared to the senior level at big4 so not sure if it’s worth the trade off in experience.

Hi 🐠 s, Need help in evaluating 2 offers - Got a Technical Architect position at Salesforce and a Consulting Manager position at EY. I have been in Big 4 all my life(8 yrs exp)and more into Advisory than actual hands on technical work. Base pay at both the companies is same with EY offering no added benefits and Salesfor offering bonus + stocks. Transition to EY would be smooth as it’s the same old BIG 4 but want to check how technical is actually a technical architect position at Salesforce?
