Getting the second moderna vaccine this weekend. I’m terrified. I’ve never had the flu so I don’t know how to prepare myself for the next day. Any advice? FWIW I had zero reaction to the first dose, generally healthy mid-thirties female, have high blood pressure.

Good friends got Moderna and so far all fine after 2nd shot. Make sure to be super hydrated, watch injection site for redness, swelling, also move arm to help soreness. Most were more tired, some had minor flu like symptoms so took Tylenol. Good luck! I get my Pfizer #2 soon. We got this!

TY! Get good rest and enjoy being part of the herd 🥳🥳🥳

I would just make sure you're hydrating and have some easy meals on hand, as well as advil or ibuprofen. I know multiple people who had no side effects after their second shot of Moderna so it really is person specific. I'd just plan to hang out on the couch or in bed all day, drink water or tea, take an Advil, and sleep

Have some toast, soup, and Tylenol on hand and be ready to hydrate. I’ll have my fingers crossed for you that you have no side effects!

Wait. You’ve NEVER had the flu?!

SM 1, I assume you are referring to the covid vaccine. I am taking it because the risks are low, the reward is high, and I’ve had informed discussions with my primary care physician. Same goes for my yearly flu vaccine if that is what you’re referencing.

I had my second last week. Shot was at 4pm. I slept ok and woke up tired, achy. Around 10am it hit me pretty hard. I rarely take medicine and try to suck it up but the combo of aches and fatigue was too much for me. However after trying to suffer through for about 20 minutes, I took a Tylenol (half dose). Within about 30 minutes I was totally fine. Like went out in 90 degree heat to finish planting flowers fine. I got a hair tired and achy when the Tylenol wore off but was fine enough to get a good night sleep without medication. Also female, 30s, generally healthy but maybe could stand to lose a few lbs

Are you me? Haha. Thanks for sharing. This makes me feel better.

Hi OP, just 30M, slightly heavier and so far so good! Just got my 2nd Moderna shot yesterday. Outside of soreness at the injection site I feel fine. No headaches, high temp or chills.

Woo!

There’s no reason to be terrified! Really all you can do is lounge around, sleep, and take a Tylenol. You might feel crappy for a day, but it’s very manageable with some Tylenol and rest.

Thanks for the encouragement!

Thanks everyone! I ended up having only mild symptoms and even went on a long trail walk Sunday. Herd immunity let’s go!!!

Prep by drinking fluids beforehand, stocking up on easy to make comfort food, and planning on laying low.

Based on what I’ve seen, moderna is usually worse the second day v. Pfizer is the first. Just have Gatorade handy, have soup and carbs handy... and even when you don’t want to, eat them.
If you have a fever above 100-101, make sure you go see a doctor and they can help control that. Other than that, it’s just not feeling that great (unfortunately the flu is that feeling on steroids but hoping that’s not the case!)

Thank you! Here’s hoping.

I felt fine after getting both Moderna shots, just a bit more tired and my arm felt sore. 40s female. Good luck!

Thank you!

One thing to remember is that if you get a reaction, that’s a good thing because it means you’re having a good response to the vaccine. Telling yourself this may help squelch any fear you experience.

When I got Pfizer #2, I felt fine until about 12 hours after. Then I got chills and felt nauseous- i kept saying my face hurt . I just didn’t feel well. I chose not to take anything like Tylenol because I wanted the immune response to work, so went to bed early and then woke up the next day feeling fine. Definitely not fun, but waaaaaaaay better than getting Covid.

Good point. Thanks!

Just plan to have 1/2 day to two days of moderate downtime. Worse case some fever, chills, body pain. The recommendation is Tylenol, rest, hydration.

Thanks for the easy recs!

Same profile as you just got my shot this week. 0 side effects other than a slightly sore arm, but did an upper body work out with no issues

like

Beautiful! I’ll take a sore arm no problem.

Got my second moderna shot this past Monday. I’m 29F, fairly healthy/active. Keep in mind symptoms are so different for each individual!

I had almost all of the side effects. For me, a high fever set in about 12 hours after injection and lasted for 24 hours on the nose. NyQuil was a godsend for that. Make sure you have Tylenol/NyQuil for fevers and pain. Ibuprofen/Advil can negatively impact the vaccine. I had chills, body and headaches all day Tuesday but was also very fatigued so slept almost all day. Woke up Wednesday feeling great, but noticed the injection site was red and inflamed. Didn’t hurt at all and can happen with all vaccines but just something to be aware of. That was gone by Thursday morning.

Biggest thing is to hydrate. Keep a ton of water near your bed so you don’t have to get up much. Prep for the worst, hope for the best.

Felt amazing since then!! Honestly knowing I’ll be 94% covered in 2 weeks from now is such a relief.
