I spent 28k around your age and lost it in the divorce.... the engagement ring is a gift. It helped pay her legal fees.... rings are temporary tattoos however... that says permanent love and you can sell it as a safety net that can't be taken off while your traveling... prenups only help to a certain extent... keep separate bank accounts and be able to directly trace where all pre marital assets go... my advice is start listening to Tom Leykis religiously.

Who cares is she has an amazing job? Let her buy a $30k ring herself then. I see so many guys ignore red flags like this and marry the wrong girl. I don't get it. After the engagement will come the wedding to the tune of $100k+ (because it's "her day"🙄) and the honeymoon somewhere exotic (French Polynesia, as an example will run well over $20k) and then she'll set her sights on the next thing she wants to show off to her friends. Run, don't walk. Also, you're 24 - there is no rush.

I'm 25 and make 100k more than my boyfriend. I would marry him if he proposed with a ring pop. Get a new girlfriend.

24 isn't too young. Completely depends on level of commitment and maturity.

That said, an insistence on a ring of X value is not a sign of emotional maturity. Kids and finances are the biggest stresses in a marriage. You need to be on the same page.
