The smartest person doesn’t get the promotion, it’s this person that sells themselves the best. Hence leadership is seldom the smartest, but always the easiest to understand

@Partner 1 where do the top 1% go?

Don’t blindly trust anyone. Verify everything. Stay skeptical unless proven otherwise.

Don’t share to much information with your peers, professionally or personally! It’s a jungle over there. Keep your enemies close and your friends closer, they will be the ones who will stab you in the back!

Start finishing the work you start. You do a good job of making progress on difficult tasks but you rely on leadership direction to finish it rather than driving it to completion. My senior manager and my wife have both given me this advice.

likefunnyhelpfulupliftingsmart

The best way to finish stuff that you start is to con your colleagues into thinking it's the best thing ever and having them help you push it to completion

Boss! I like this one

Something out there is your kryptonite (Could be booze, procrastination, vanity, dumb spending...The thing that takes you off track more than anything else and makes you feel bad afterwards). Find out what it is and control it. Eliminate it if you can. Then you start getting big things done.

likehelpfulupliftingsmartfunny

And with that I'm signing out

like

If your leadership promises you or dangles something in front of you and then doesn’t deliver (bonuses, promotions, etc), then it’s time to go. Life is too short to work for people who waste your time

RETWEEEEEET

Don't ever, for any reason, do anything to anyone for any reason ever, no matter what, no matter where, or who, or who you are with, or where you are going, or where you've been... ever, for any reason whatsoever...

1 - no one will ever tell you to work less in consulting, set your own boundaries
2 - ask for the path to promotion early, if you don’t your peers are doing it
3 - find out the way the firm really works and get the right people on your side. But don’t be annoying... I have it seen it work against people too. Don’t waste a partner’s time with a pure self promotion call.

If you want to land very competitive roles, you have to have the “perfect” story about why you are a fit. Also if you have to apply and search for those jobs on a job board, odds are you’ve already been passed on. If you don’t have a plan for what experiences you will extract from a job, you’re wasting time (which is fine if you’re content). Get known for a niche so recruiters seek you out. Start taking your career seriously as early on as possible, because the knowledge you can get can snowball very quickly.

You work with people that without a steady paycheck would be homeless in less than 3 months. They’ll do what it takes to survive including burning you, the firm, and anything threatening their tenuous financial position.

Be diplomatic and never burn bridges no matter how much you hate the other person.

like

If the other person is truly un-diplomatic, make sure people see you being the polite and reasonable one. And get stuff in writing. You will have the high ground in the eyes of everyone else.

like

No one is coming to rescue you. Not everyone is meant to survive, and not everyone is going to find someone to love her.

You’re ultimately just a number on a spreadsheet somewhere. The second your return doesn’t outweigh your cost, they’ll find someone else.

Mentorship should be a symbiotic relationship - think hard about what you can offer in return that will benefit the mentor.

Having a single mentor is a mistake - get a circle of leaders you value. Take what you can apply and leave the rest behind. Successful people don't follow the footsteps of others, they avoid the landmines of those in front of them and carve a new path.

I have to travel to my client every week and the client’s office is attached to a very nice hotel that’s $250 per night. There’s a hotel right across the street that’s $150 per night.. it’s alright, but not as great. Should I be mindful about how much I’m spending or should I blow up the budget until someone says something?

I am project manager in clinical research industry (CRO). After earning PhD, I gave up my science dream to take a more stable job. After slowly climbing the ladders, I feel like I finally got a seat at the table. Half the days I like the hustle, but now I miss being creative. I want to take more brainstorming, decision making responsibilities but I don’t see that in the career path for PM. Career path usually goes like this- Sr PM, Director l, Sr Director, and so on. But all do same work.

Would love some thoughts on what title structure makes the most sense for my agency /translates within the advertising industry. Our Project Management dept was pretty flat until recently. We’ve build out a real team — I’ll be getting promoted to an associate director level (I’d say that — that’s not what we call it) — and I want to make sure this title makes sense. Now would be the time to change it within our dept if we’re ever going to. Currently we have: (see comments)

⚠️Toxicity Alert ⚠️

My previous manager would track us by hours daily, made a fuss everytime anything stretched and guilt us for that and the unplanned leave too unless it was COVID. Hinted him a lot of time, this is problematic but apparently he considered it "standard practice for agile".

Now 8/10 teammates have switched within < 1 year of project start (6-7 months with him) which tbh had good work in our opinion and even team was fun to work with even though none of us ever met in person.

Hello everyone!
I’m currently a PMO project manager, but would like to PM Cloud-based software projects. Any suggestions on credits or certifications to help build my Cloud knowledge?

Thank you in advance!

Testing TV files for Extreme Reach

Is there a website or portal you can use to test TV files before submitting? I have a client who handles their own traffic, so anytime Extreme Reach rejects or even questions something that is not a problem, it gets kicked back and a bunch of clients get CC'd on an email saying: "this failed QA."

At every other agency I've worked on, we would be able to handle any kickback or tweaks internally with zero client involvement. I'd love a way to test files.
