I’d just insist he wear a mask, and have hand sanitizer. The distance between the front seat and the back seat isn’t 6 feet. So probably not much difference between him being in the passenger seat or the back seat. That being said, do what you feel comfortable with

Where in the car he’s sitting isn’t going to matter, unless you’re driving a really big car. Wear masks and sanitize and that’s probably the best you can do.

Rent a suburban and make him sit in the back corner seat diagonally away from you with the middle seats up as a barrier and to minimize contact make him enter/exit the vehicle through the trunk.
If you keep the windows open it should be fine as the wind would remove any potential droplets.
