2 weeks
If you already received bonus before giving notice, there won’t be much downside to giving 3 weeks instead of 2. Why not take 1 week off before giving 2 week notice? Health insurance coverage usually stops at the end of the month that you are leaving, so that could be a factor to consider in terms of deciding your last day.
Thanks for this--I hadn't even thought about the insurance aspect. I'm going on vacation immediately after I quit, and so would love to get paid out for my vacation days rather than take them, but great tip nonetheless.
- Take the extra week for yourself. If you already have enough time between the two jobs, you sure can give three weeks. - your current job may fire you on the spot. Then you’ll be out 3 weeks pay instead of 2.
2 weeks. Employers don’t appreciate it anyway so take the time for yourself.
To rephrase, is there any downside to giving, e.g., 3 weeks notice that I'm not considering? Just want this process to be as smooth and amicable as possible.
Just gave 3 to go in house. Wanted to make sure I had enough time to transition my matters, clean up files, and leave decent leaving memos.

I gave extra long notice (~3 weeks twice) but I had good relationships with partners/clients I wanted to retain (and it really matters - you never know when you’re suddenly laid off and need to go back to those old contacts for help, which happened to me). It’s only one extra week in the grand scheme of your life. Flip side is it’s one less week you get for vacation etc, I wouldn’t do it unless you really appreciate your relationships and want to do them a favor. Also agreed with try and make your last day the rest of a month and you can get insurance that whole month (usually).
