Giving notice today. Got a job making the same amount of money I was for 1900 hours, for 1500 hours in a practice area I enjoy more. And I can bring my dogs. I am so relieved to leave ID! Had to post with the good news and thank you all for the great advice and perspective on lateraling that I’ve read here. Thank you!!

Yeah I'm a third year and make mid 80s. I get away with billing about 165-175 a month, but I know my firm wants 200+. Just refuse to do more than 175 given my pay. And thank you! It's gonna be a long road to get out

What is the average salary for a SC1 in EY’s IT advisory practice? Is 100k too much to ask?

I’m currently working for a temp agency and I’ve been there since 08/2021. I have a few more classes and should earn my associates degree by the summer. I’m having trouble making my Resumè sound up to par and engaging. I honestly don’t think I’m a good interviewee and now it’s hard to even get an interview. I just want job stability with benefits, pto, vacation and sick. A M-F type of thing with great pay for where I’m at in my career. Any suggestions, I’m in HOUSTON Tx.

I did not meet my billable budget. I’m a 1st year and around mid October realized I was going to have to bill 8-9 hours a day before the end of this month to meet my budget, and planned to. However, my dad passed mid October which caused me to take time off. I’m about 200 hours behind, though. My boss said not to worry about it as they are understanding about me needing to take time off, but I’m still worried that this looks really bad…

Got called into a meeting yesterday with my current, small firm to have a conversation about my commitment to them and if I was interviewing elsewhere. They questioned why I left early or came late a few times in the past few weeks (it was for interviews). I obviously said I wasn't interviewing. And now, a day later, I receive an offer that I will definitely be accepting. This is going to be awkward.

Dealing with baglog

What are some strategies for dealing with backlog? While working from home I've had a propensity to procrastinate and now have gotten behind on several files. I know I need to grind to turn them around before the clients asks for an update, but that's easier said than done during the day with conference calls, emails, and new "urgent" work that doesn't stop.

Excited to be switching from ID to PI. Got a good vibe from the partners and spoke with a current associate who said good things. Then I talked to a colleague who said they’ve heard bad things about the firm. Took the wind right out of my sails. But then I thought any firm will have people saying good and bad things about it, and I’d argue that most gossip about firms, especially second hand, is generally negative. So I’m undeterred and still looking forward to my new position.

Comp question: I’m in plaintiff litigation in a major east coast city. I receive $148k base, and have been making another $150k or so in commissions. I have 13 YOE and feel like I’m making significantly less than my colleagues with similar experience. Should I ask for a substantial raise in base and/or an increased percentage in commission?

My firm announced their making everyone come back to the office 3 times a week. I’m low key pissed about it. I make my billable hours. We already don’t get any vacation or sick time. The least they could do is let us bill our hours wherever we want. Work from home has made a work-life balance in this field somewhat attainable and now they want to take it away.

I checked my direct deposit and noticed I was given a significant raise. I have only been at the firm for 2 months and no one has talked to me about a raise. I triple checked it wasn’t a math error on my end. Is it possible I got a raise so quickly into a new job? Probably not, right? What should I do?

This may be just a naive/dumb question, but how do you relax when you’ve got a really stressful file? I’m a junior and I’ve been putting in ~10ish billable hours a day recently, which is more than I’m used to. The evenings (post-8pm) are generally my time to decompress - read a book, watch dumb tv, whatever - but it’s been all work lately until 10 or 11pm and I struggle to go straight from work to bed. Any insight on what everyone else does?
