God I love Being on the bench. Mimosas every day at 9 am.

I start a project I sold in a week. The last two weeks have been glorious. First time in 8 years on bench :)

I did one orals (2d), one client emergency rescue (2d), reply to a bunch of emails and looked for the next gig up my alley. Sometimes you just want to spend some time to find the right gig. Being on the bench doesn’t mean you can’t play a part of your team, but finding people willing to give you chargeable billcode at sm level is not something I expect. Do I care about my utilization? No.

And even if you do win work, some utterly useless clients take a year to decide and start the goddamn thing. I also use the time to build up wife faction to allow me to focus 100% on work when I hit the road again. Time well spent, and helps avoid burnout

Yes, our utilization targets are lower, and we often make it rain in sales and client relationships. We earn that 9am mimosa
