Girl on the train yes

like

Anything by Liane Moriarty, Orphan Train, Mean Streak, The Girl on the Train, Missing You, and All the Light We Cannot See. I know you didn't ask for non-fiction, but I also really enjoyed Dead Wake and The Wright Brothers.

I read all of Gillian! So good!

like

Just started her new book- "don't you cry". Seems promising

like

Did you read the other Gillian Flynn book? I don't remember the name and I always get that one and Sharp Objects mixed up

Same boat :) my friend recommended girl on the train as well!

I read girl on a train also!!

Great minds !

The girl with the dragon tattoo trilogy was also excellent

Also read that 😭

So amazing

Did you read the book thief? I read that on vacation 2 years ago. Last year was girl on the train and luckiest girl alive which I DO NOT recommend. Reviews were calling it the next gone girl. It was not good at all

D1's list seems good. I've read and liked girl on the train and orphan train. Up next on my book list are some Liane Moriarty books. So I'm guessing all those suggestions would be good 😊

The good girl- pretty similar style to gone girl (and clearly trying to milk it off the title) but it was really good.

Read good girl also ugh FML

Try some of Haruki Murakami's work. 1Q84 is really good.

I’m accepting a job offer tomorrow, and the new company has 5 less PTO days per year than my current company, and it’s prorated based on my start date. I have my full year planned out with my current PTO schedule, and the majority of my PTO is in the latter half of my year (1 week vacation, 3 days for sisters bachelorette party, 2 days for 2 separate wedding out of town). We already negotiated, and I feel bad going back to ask for more PTO, but I need it. What would you do? How to approach?

Ever since I started working in tax, it's just not been possible to rest. I've taken time off, but my mind has constantly been worried about work and been feeling anxious. I've been feeling drained and just totally fed up. I'm seeing work pile up, but I have little to no motivation to keep doing it. How do people disconnect when they take PTO? What's the point of resting, if you're gonna be immediately tired after coming back. I feel this damages morale so much in the long run.

Do most VC’s operate like a start up? Just got an offer and they don’t even have a benefits sheet for me to look at (like a mobile stipend, gym stipend, etc.). Literally just base comp, carry, PTO. And haven’t met a single person from HR. Is this normal or a bad sign?

I’ve been working in cyber risk in the federal sector for a few years and I’m finding I enjoy “advise” projects much more than operate/implement (I’m guessing on the implement piece since I’ve done pursuits for it and seen the technical sections, but I haven’t done the work). If I wanted to pivot into a strategy firm and stay federal (or government in general), what firms would be ideal? I’m not basing it off prestige (MBB vs non MBB).

Articling student in Canada (8 month internship with potential hireback), currently doing transactional work. I’m WFH and having a hard time building relationships with partners. I’m friendly/chat with associates and am on great terms with one partner who gives me work often, but not much else. The firm “encourages” reaching out to partners to chat, though I’ve tried and been essentially ignored. Partners rarely have enough time to give me feedback, so I feel they don’t have time to chat.

Looking for advice on how to career pivot. My husband is a general manager for a company that has HQ in a different state so growth opps are limited unless we move. How do I help him pivot into a more corporate job somewhere before it’s too late and he’s pegged as a boots on the ground GM? He has so much potential but I feel like all people see on his resume is that he’s a GM of a location as opposed to an operations leader especially when applying to jobs on LinkedIn.
