You could also let your subordinates know that you’re going through personal issue and to carefully review their work, ramp up on specific tools they might be lacking, etc. If I knew my SM was dealing with something personal (don’t need specifics) the last thing I would want to do is add more to their plate. A lot of times these situations allow subs to grow and self manage
Fuck him man. This is your life, work shouldn’t be. If you already told him, then just be stern about your stance and let him figure it out. It’s not easy
Talk w him. You’re in a tough spot and need some support from him
Already told him I’m going through a divorce and to bear with me.
No one was recruited into consulting for his/her empathy.
Exercise your exit option.
I’m all for encouraging people to take good exit opportunities, but I’m also all for promoting decent behaviour toward coworkers. Also, pushing people to leave during a rough patch is a great way to lose talent. Rough patches happen, invest in people long term and they may come out stronger than before.
I would tell him/her that if you are out of the office, his/her options include: waiting for you to review it when you are back or dealing with work that may not be up to the quality you would provide.
May be take an LOA. This is already a tough time for you. You do not want it to affect your career adversely.
Also hang in there! Most, if not all of us, are not actually involved in immediately life or death work. Unless you count death by a thousand PowerPoints as they say.
Have a talk with him and separate talks with any partners your close with to cover your ass. If he doesn’t lighten up, tell him to roll you off.
Sorry for what you are going through. Do your best to keep the work on track. Also, I think you’ve found a boss not to work with again in the future, so congrats on that. I have often said, knowing who not to work for is a critical success factor in consulting.
Maybe take a leave of absence?
Do you have someone you trust to help review for you if you have something come up? If not, it may be time to either get that help brought on board or to train someone up who has some potential!
Is your boss aware? If not you may want to let him/her know along with what your needs are at this time. It’ll be tough but stay strong and continue to focus on yourself. Work can and should wait. Let your teams try to take on additional tasks is possible to ease the burden
