Going to be starting a new job soon (in consulting) after a break when I adopted a dog. She is still learning and I don’t trust her to stay quite through all my meetings. Do you think this is going to be an issue? How can I best manage the situation while we’re WFH?

On calls, I prefer to hear from the dog to be honest

I think everyone is used to hearing children, dogs, Gardners, angry spouses, etc in the background. But if it’s non stop while you’re presenting for a chunk of time then that’s an issue

You’re not the only person with a dog. Anyone reasonable will understand as long as it’s not constant. Enjoy your pup, they make work worth it

I mean it’s not a huge issue. Dogs barking during meetings is kind of nice unless they’re important/client facing. I would find a good strategy to train your dog. Positive reinforcement with barking as hard as rewarding a dog for stopping barking kind of teaches them to bark and then stop lol. You might need some sort of interrupter like compressed CO2.

Here is an idea - I used ultrasound device that detects barking and makes an ultrasound noice which dogs hate and that stops them from barking. My dog used to would not stop barking for a while after I leave the house, so I had to come up with something to save my neighbors from that. She got used to it pretty fast, then I stopped using it after a few month, she still doesn’t bark

If it’s an important meeting I’ll put her out on the balcony if the weather is good, or lock her up in my bedroom

Any recommendations for a hybrid robot vacuum in terms of price-performance Ratio or important buying criteria? WFH makes it necessary and I want to treat myself :). Key information: floor is parquet, so I guess it should have dry/wet/wiping functions, don’t have any pets, thought I want to spend 300€ max. but no clue if investing more is worth it. Highly appreciate any input :)!

Hi there ! Needing your experience ! I'm still fully wfh, packed with work and 10 hours call minimum/day, impacting my sleep. In september, I started working out with a trainer once a week, sometimes two if i can. My only social life is about going out for dinner (i try to walk before & after). At home i watch my food (healthy stuff, no snacking, low carbs) but i keep on putting on weight fast. Anyone solved a similar situation ? Eating less is just killing my energy... (and no, not pregnant!)

COVID WFH has put me several time zones away from my client (I’m further west and their culture is to start the day early anyway). It’s a new project so I don’t have relationships built up. How much pushback on morning meetings is reasonable? I know the project can’t operate totally around me but these start times aren’t sustainable...

Total newbie. Today the same work that took me 5 hours to complete took 1.5hr for a coworker. I’m keep seeing this pattern on different kinds of work, from research to formatting. And I‘m definitely not a perfectionist.. I don’t know what the issue is and how to be faster. Since we’re remote, its hard to gauge how others are working. Did anyone go through this?

Maybe this is a dumb idea, but maybe firms should change their policies and guarantee no retaliation if you give more than 2 weeks notice. Additionally if the position doesn’t work out you would be allowed to stay. This would give firms much more runway for finding replacement employees. Thoughts?
