Best city to visit in Canada as a foodie??
Tasting rooms.
1. Keever. Small and more personal. Wines are more expensive. Can only buy some at vineyard. Their cab is awesome.
2. The Terraces. Owner is a hoot if he’s there. Former exec from IBM. Ask for their balasamic tasting too. They don’t sell it but it’s amazing. Wine is great.
3. Alpha Omega. Beautiful outdoor area to buy a bottle and enjoy.
4. Hill Family Estate. Tasting room downtown Younteville. Can also walk around town after. Delicious wine. Ryan Hill is owner and super nice.
5. B Cellars. Great lunch and tasting experience. Unsure if need bigger party. Wine is good.
6. Flora Springs. Gorgeous and try the cave / barrel tasting. Trilogy wine is amazing
7 St Supery. Delicious wine and some only available there
8. Venge. Also great and gorgeous setting. Tasting director is also a little wild. Scouts Honor wine my favorite.
For food try:
1. Ad Hoc. Set menu daily
2. Bouchon for lunch
3. Gott’s roadside for burgers/ fish tacos and boxed wine!
Get a driver. Have them help organize.
Don’t forget to use the spit bucket or you won’t remember any of it.
Avoid Sterling and the big ones. Too big and crowded.
Thank you so much for this A1! I might go with the Terraces. Just going with a friend and I'll be driving this time. Will definitely come back to try other places you recommended. Thanks again!
There’s also a music festival going on this weekend called bottlerock. Might be more crowded than usual
A few of my favorites:
1. Del Dotto wine caves - great tour, amazing wine. Expensive to buy your own bottles $150+. Recommend a reservation.
2. Regusci Winery - Reservation recommended. Our host was great. Told you a lot about each wine.
3. Schramsberg - sparkling wines, great tour. Open a bit earlier than other wineries
4. Mumm - open later than the others. Has small plates, can do a tasting but won’t learn about the wines. casual spot. Outdoor seating overlooks vineyard
5. Hall Rutherford - $$$ tasting
Other places on my list to try (have been recommended to me by others):
- Domaine Chandon - sparking
- Sterling Winery
- Spring Mountain
Skip the castle. V. Sattui was nice to be outdoors for some pictures, but very crowded. Nice picnic area if you need a break.
Dinner: would recommend Bistro Don Giovanni
Second the recommendations above for Bouchon and Gott’s.
Make sure you take Uber’s or arrange a car service.
I was there the afternoon of Day 1, all day Day 2 and morning of Day 3
Or are there wineries in Sonoma that offer similar views and experience?
Tons in Sonoma and Healdsburg
Solage spa in Calistoga 🥰
Sonoma is where it's at. Agree, avoid Sterling.
Also, 32 Winds is some of my favorite.
