Keep us updated on how it went. The only tip I would give you is don’t talk too much and don’t agree/disagree at the moment, try and buy some time to review the details and get back. Of course if it’s too low, you should say something like, “well that’s a bit on the lower side. Based on my research I feel a TC of $X is what the market pays for this role and I’d appreciate if you could go back to the team and get it bumped to that number.” Also I think it’s important to show that you are really excited for the role, so begin the call showing that excitement and thanking the recruiter for the opportunity and all nice things.
Never be the decision maker “I need time to discuss this with my family”.
Ask to understand the total comp band for your role/level, and each of the breakout for your TC. “I see that this base is near the 75th percentile or top end of the band, and may be difficult to adjust. Is there flexibility to increase RSUs or singing bonus?”
Do you have external offers you can leverage?
They can almost always go higher than initial offer.
All this and also "I am prepared to sign today if we can raise this to _____"
Coach
That exact line has worked wonders for me.
Don’t talk too much. Say a number / what you expect and the hush the f up. Waiiiiiiiit. Works nearly every time. Good luck!
