Well, as a corporate recruiter with 15 years experience who got laid off last week with 145 other SR recruiters from my company alone it may be a challenging time to find a corporate gig. As companies are slowing /freezing jobs recruiters are the first to go. 8 months isn't enough experience to be competitive with all the talent available right now- my recco is stay where you are gut it out- (we all did it - earn your strips)Agency is hard- but if you want to be a recruiter, do the work, polish your skills, model yourself after the successful non AH recruiters on the team and once you have more than a year under your belt I think you'll have a better shot. Good luck!
Thanks a lot for this insight and I’m sorry to hear about your laid off. Best of luck to you as well! I’m definitely taking this into consideration and adding to my research… my challenges with agency is that I’m finding it to be too sales based which I believe kind of takes away from the importance of recruiting. The environment could be quite aggressive and some people are a bit self-serving which for me takes away from that team culture that I’m use to. It’s definitely not that stable and often leaves you feeling on edge. Maybe it differs depending on the firm? I had a colleague that actually started at the firm I’m at with me, has the same amount of experience and similar skill set (maybe less than me actually), and just left our firm about a month ago and is now a corporate recruiter with Edward Jones. I’m definitely not one to compare situations, but it does make me curious… should I be targeting a certain industry? I’m noticing tech and e-commerce is no ideal at this time.
My advice would be to stay where you’re at while continuing to apply/ interview. You may end up finding the right fit, but the search could take months in this market (putting you closer to the year of experience mark anyway).. as for industry I would target what you enjoy. Don’t just move to move, move somewhere you can see yourself long term and don’t just jump ship hastily
