Yes to all! If you want outdoor adventures, Costa Rica is great (surfing, yoga, zip lining, hiking, volcanoes, etc). I lived in Palma de Mallorca and highly recommend it - or the island of Menorca if you want something off the beaten path. If you want to eat well, go to the Basque region in the northeast (but it will be cold and the speak Basque so expect to understand nothing). Sevilla and Granada are gorgeous and have great architecture and history. I’ve been to all of these places solo and with friends and they are great both ways (though I do speak Spanish fluently, which helps).

When did you live there?! this is really cool!

So do you recommend Portugal or Costa Rica ?

I am currently at a firm and received an in-house offer. Aside from main items like comp and big ticket benefits like PTO/health insurance/401k, what other items do I need to think about discussing/negotiating? For example, fees to keep bar licensure, professional association fees, CLEs, etc. I feel like there is so much on that end I currently take for granted being covered at my firm. Anything else I should consider?

Does anyone have insight on what a trading/portfolio manager role should make at a smaller RIA (less than $2B AUM). I am the first (and only one so far) in my company to shift into a trading position so am not sure what I should be expecting in terms of salary and overall comp. I head our firm block trading and oversee all daily trading and rebalancing for client service members and financial advisors.

EY PAS said that they can’t offer more than 115k for senior associate in Chicago. I find that ridiculously low since accenture t&o is offering people 140k to join as a consultant. It is from my understating that ey associate is equal to analyst and sr analyst at Accenture. Then senior associate is equal to consultant/ sr consultant. What am i missing here?

Looking for some perspective in negotiations.

2nd year at midsize firm making 150k with 1700 billable hour requirement.

Got an in house offer at global company for 130k, $5000 signing bonus. They know I make 150k.

What’s the appropriate counter offer? Don’t want to be offensive because I really want this job, but also want to look out for my best interests. Boston market, IP counsel position.

Do people tend to age out of wanting to FIRE?

In your 20s-30s, you don’t know much, you’re told what to do, you have few financial resources so you are tied to your job. Under these circumstances it makes perfect sense why you would want to FIRE asap.

But eventually you advance up the ladder, you are now the boss and your people do all the grunt work. You also have built up expertise which makes the job easier. And you are making the best money of your life. FIRE is no longer so pressing.

Have a primary home and a vacation home. We go to vacation home for holidays as family is near by but it is a 2 day drive to get there or a plane ride. With our pups driving has become more of the norm. We do not rent when we are not there. Thinking of buying third home about 4 hours from primary home on the coast for enjoyment. I worry about juggling 3 homes. Anyone with experience with this? Advice?
