Good evening. I am currently a physical therapist, but burn out is coming on hard. I am thinking of getting out of the profession but do t k ow what I can transfer to woth my knowledge base without a drastic pay cut or have g to start from the bottom and work my way up. I ha e a wife and kid and looking for a little extra inco.e as well as get away from the patient care aspect. Any reccomendations of a career switch? Anyone done it? I currently make just over 70k and live in coastal carolina.
Have you looked into utilization review/management for PT? Does not require patient care but uses your clinical skillset for chart reviews. Most positions are also remote.
I have e tried to find job listing for that, but have been unsuccessful. Any idea on how or where to find them?
Hello there Carolina Therapist, father and husband. Orlando Health has inpatient acute rehab. Therapists are awesome, team atmosphere is awesome as well. As a nurse we have hard days but the attitude of the staff is great and everyone works together. They will be relocating to Ocoee Florida (19 min from Orlando) in May 2022. Maitland, Altomonte Springs and Ocoee cost of living is a little better than Orlando. In the heat of summer, I do my outside activities,(Beach, bike rides and hiking before 11 am or after 5. ) I am from Syracuse NY and the heat was bearable as long as you are inside between Noon and 5. It just means you need to learn to rise and shine early and seize the day.
Share the same feelings as you. Healthcare is an absolutely under appreciated field, and in my biased opinion, PTs are super low valued. I worked a lot of settings. 1.5 yrs acute care, 1 yr snf, 4 years op ortho, 3 yrs hh. HH was the most rewarding, chill, and the least of the burn out feeling. Give it a try, pays well compared to the other fields.
You seem tired of your job environment, and I have seen many people in the same situation. One thing you can try to help with your transition is to do some telehealth.
Would you be open to travel PT? I work for a staffing agency and we have open roles in Alabama, Arizona, Michigan, and other states across the US.
