Good friend of mine was just fired for expense fraud. Not sure exactly what he did but it was something around his flight. He didn't think the company would call the airline to verify receipt details

Your friend deserves it. I'd never understand why people try to make $50 while putting their $90k job at risk.

Y’all are just lucky we don’t have to register as brokers. In that case, employer reports any fraud to FINRA and it stays on your record permanently. Heard there was widespread abuse of after hours meal expense policy by a group of interns at a large bank a year or two back and every single one of them was let go at the end of the summer and had that black mark on their record before any of them even graduated. Any other bank would have to document an exception an get senior compliance approval to hire any of those kids as an analyst after they graduated. Not worth it.

Isn’t this also a permanent record during employment background check?

Someone at Deloitte got caught last year creating fake uber receipts to the total of £95k. Also, on a slightly smaller, but more hilarious scale, I heard a story about someone expensing a wine fridge to a project code. Must have been one hell of a project. And yes, they got fired, but the symbolism lives on.

He returned his flight and rebooked a cheaper flight, pocketing the difference. How the hell did the company find out though? He's raging about how the airline isn't supposed to give customer details and talking about suing because they shouldn't have said anything to his employer

What a piece of garbage.

Probably a boutique? Most larger firms book flights centrally

Wondering if they purchased with miles, but expensed the flight value? I’ve heard of people doing that to offload their depreciating mile surplus. 🧐

Maybe because I’m entry level and still having a difficult time with learning how to do an expense report (it’s not covered in training), how can someone commit fraud?

funny

Not to pull off but rather engage in it

like

It's really hard to commit fraud with airline tickets I thought? How could you even...

like

Every 20 years or so someone forgets that these things can be tracked. When I started, we had to submit boarding passes to prove we checked on on the same ticket.we were expensing.
