Try to find a job in a company that uses SAP and become a user of the system first. This is the easiest way into the ecosystem.
Go to SAP press for books.
You can choose what your interest are and then find a SME to help you navigate.
Having an in depth understanding of business processes helps. If you want to be a technical SAP consultant then this matters less. But if your plan is to be on the functional side then having a good understanding of the process you’re wanting to go into (i.e. it might be easier for you to come from an operations/supply chain role into a TM/EWM/IBP focused SAP role). If you have end user experience in a solution that as someone else mentioned, that is invaluable too. Picking up the basics of the solution SAP offers isn’t as hard if you know how it runs on the front end already
Get a job with a company that runs SAP. Get first hand knowledge as a user. Understand how the business processes tie into the software. Try to get on a project where you are providing input to the SAP implementation team. SAP is a very closed off box. Try to break in a step at a time.
The above only applies if your goal is to be a functional consultant.
What background do you have ?
What’s your current job profile ?
Good start. I’m hoping you understand the basics of production planning. On the material master record learn about every QM relevant field. I’m hoping you know the basics of an inspection lot, usage decisions, and qm related stock movements. I can teach anyone what buttons to press in SAP - the real value is understanding the processes and having lived them
What everyone else recommended about learning the business process if you’re hoping to get on the functional side is spot on. While you learn the process side of the business, I recommend that you build relationships with people in companies that implement SAP. We all know the big IT service companies, but don’t overlook the medium to smaller sized ones. For help identifying those you can use the SAP Partner Finder tool to look for all companies that provide SAP consulting and implementation services. Here’s the link: https://partneredge.sap.com/content/partnerfinder/search.html#/
Hope this helps.
