Airport hotel provide shuttles to airports which can be convenient so the kids can sleep a bit longer
For Madrid I’d definitely recommend staying by the airport. Getting to the city center can take a while in my experience.
Looks like there are a few airport adjacent hotels with outdoor pools to which could be a good kid friendly activity.
What kinda itinerary has a 24 hr layover!
I’m looking into traveling to Croatia from the US and all the flights home have a 24hr layover, ugh.
Rising Star
Where is the layover city and how old are the kids?! That can play a factor into the decision?!
I would say depends on the city and the flight arrival/ departure times.
I lived in Madrid and I thought it was pretty easy to get into the city. Depending on how many kids (can you fit in one taxi), I would take a taxi in (fastest and most convenient). The metro is great but you will have to transfer to get anywhere a tourist would be interested in going and it’s not always elevator friendly (if you have luggage). I would stay in the area north of sol (between sol and gran via) for easiest access to sight seeing for such a short layover. https://www.gomadrid.com/transport/airport_options.html
Thanks. This is helpful.
