I’m making 55k in Chicago. Am I underpaid?
I never got more than 4 without job hopping. I get the frustration.
Enjoy the money. Negotiate better next time. Dm me if you wanna strategize I just negotiated a 30% raise would love to give a fellow young creative some bullets in the chamber for next time.
Lame. Hope you're not working too hard.
I mean is it lame? People say 3-5 is normal so I feel like this was good. I just don’t make tons to begin with so it doesn’t help as much.
6.6% as a raise is above average. If you were promoted, that would be a different conversation
It’s a good raise. Keeping doing goo work!
OP, I was stuck in the “tiny raises cycle” and got a 30% increase by leaving my agency. It’s a bummer but that’s how it works sometimes
That’s good. ACD1 is right. Without jumping to another shop, you’ll likely only get cost of living raises. Unless you are really valuable and fight for it
Totally know the feeling but hey, it’s better than nothing! Every little bit counts toward your goal salary, even if it’s just creeping along
That’s a “we like you and want to keep you” raise. Maybe play the confidence they have in you to get on better projects. Nail a really good campaign and then move agencies for a big raise. Play the long game.
Gratitude is a helluva drug. Doesn’t mean you can’t strategize a next move, but cultivating the skill of acknowledging gratitude will manifest itself daily. Without that, no raise (or anything else in life) is going to bring much ease beyond the initial dopamine rush
Sucks, but if you want real money you gotta move. Got a 25% increase with just a lateral move, which I am currently ok with because there are more opportunities here than my last agency. Really just depends on what your goals are.
Thank you! I was just in a funk about how long it takes to get that salary up there. I don’t currently want to leave but know eventually I will have to if I want that big raise. Making a big push to be promoted next year. But it helps that I feel like I’m valued enough to get a higher percentage raise than they have to give.
Copywriter 1 a 30 percent raise same agency no promotion?
As long as you keep up with inflation or above it you’re good.
