Genuine question - after 2+ years of reports on number of COVID deaths, severity of infection in people of all ages and levels of fitness, long term effects on people infected, what were you expecting?

likesmart

PWC 1 - After 2+ years of reports? For real, I have a number of friends that are doctors and nurses and they blatantly admitted to me how skewed numbers were in terms of how hospitals were dealing with this. Truthfully speaking, no one knows what the true numbers are in terms of true deaths from CoVID, etc. Literally had hospitals diagnosing majority as CoVID even if someone came in with a nail in their foot (exaggerating but you get my point).

Similar to what many are saying here, it just depends on you and how your body will handle it. I guess I have lucky friends where a ton of them got it and the worst case of the bunch was slight mini fever and the rest either did not know or lost taste or minor runny nose (literally 98-99% of my friends were fine).

OP assumed not bad, got it and said ooo crap worse than expected. Depends on person and their health. Feel better OP.

Seriously, it’s not a joke. I still have some lingering symptoms of some Brian fog and occasional chills without any fever for no reason after more than a year.

People died coz of this sh*t, it is not a joke at all ... it could be really bad and it could take us to another lockdown if hospitalization rates go up again. I hope you get well soon and take as much rest as you can

like

The northeast and the west coast states might lock down but the rest of the country is done. You might see some self quarantine but you will never see compliance with a lockdown again.

It went around bad during holiday weekend. Yep, the R’s made it sound like it wasn’t a big deal anymore. But, it can be deadly. We should have reporting on flu and COVID cases just so we can decide when to protect ourselves better. No mandates, just individual choices.

Yep all the other news sources say the same thing. Just a bunch of shills

Same! And, agree! Ibuprofen helps. Sorry you’re going through it - wishing you swift healing.

We had training a few weeks ago and almost everyone got it! Felt terrible! I do not advise group gatherings until it dies down

My brother just had it and said the same. Took him out for like a week. Vaccinated and boosted too.

It’s almost like the vaccine didn’t help with with this variant

Same. I tested positive last week. Have had 8 days of fever and chills and cough and fatigue. Boosted, etc.

sorry to hear this. I've escaped getting it so far but it may just be a matter of time

like

Yeah, I managed to avoid Covid for 2+ years only to get it last month. A week after my second booster (I’m immunocompromised). I only felt like sh*t for a few hours though. Headache, body ache, congested nose. Was as good as new the next day.
Hope your symptoms will pass soon.

I’m honestly shocked anyone is surprised at how bad these new infections are. I recognize everyone is different and my wife had a very mild case of Omicron I but if I get it I fully expect to be laid up for 7-14 days which is why I am trying to avoid it. I’m not worried about hospitalization or death but knowing I will be out of commission and unable to work out or work regular hours is not appealing.

I wish more people would pay attention and go back to masking where groups of people are gathering.

I’ve had Covid 2 time confirmed and maybe 3. My antibodies are off the charts!

This virus eats the antibodies and creates its new versions. 😭

I’m in the same boat. My 18 Month old son brought it from his day care. He sailed through after 3 day’s of mild fever and cough. I got fever, chills for 2 days and some weakness after that. My wife had it worst, her cough has been going on for more than 3-4 days and just doesn’t stop.

like

I have been sick like 8 or so time this year one at least positive Covid but I think I had pneumonia as I was coughing up some nasty stuff for a week literally two weeks ago. But hey, no mask in the office and COVID is over!!!

I got it and barely noticed other than a runny nose (I ran a half marathon with it), but my husband got it and ran a super high fever, was in bed for 8 days sleeping almost 20 hours a day, and is still having some shortness of breath 2 weeks later! It's brutal!

like

oh man. I was expecting way worse and luckily caught a mild case. Quarantine is up at the end of the week and I'm tired of being with my 4 yo 24/7 XD

like

Hope you feel better soon! Take care

Thank you!!

Sowwie!

Of the people who had Covid multiple times, were the subsequent cases as bad as the first? That is, does having a bad case give you some protection from getting a bad case later?

I’ve had it 2 times. Both times were chill

Anyone in a similar situation?

My group has been going into the office 3-4 days a week since mid-June. Our office is in Houston, which is dealing with a surge of Delta cases. Every week we get multiple emails about someone in the building testing positive for covid. I would like to work from home until cases either decrease or I’m able to get a booster (so maybe 6 weeks). I know my firm would say it’s ok but I think ppl in my group would judge me & it could hurt my image at the firm. Thoughts?

Hi all, was hoping for clarity on offers from FANG/Tier 2 tech I received recently. Base pay is still within range of 130-150K, but equity components have dropped dramatically. For reference, for similar positions, I was receiving grants of 150K - 200K over 4 years for data analyst positions (4-5 YOE) in Aug’21-Feb’22. For personal reasons, I did not accept these offers. Now the equity grants are coming in like 50-70K over 4 years. Is this market wide for non SWE/PM roles due to stock market?
