Got a fed clerkship, and the last day at my law firm will sometime during the first week of May (5 weeks from now). How early is too early to give notice that I’m leaving?

Just tell them now. They’ll be happy for you.

I’d tell ‘em now. Leaving for a clerk position is different than lateraling to another firm IMO.

like

It depends on your relationship with the employer. If they’re toxic and might fire you right there, give them 2 weeks notice. If you think they’d be happy for you, then tell them now so they can be more prepared.

Does your law firm like clerkships? In the past we have allowed associates to leave for clerkships with the understanding that they would come back afterward.

like

Personally I would have told them a long time ago. Your stock would have gone up.

Am I crazy? 6th year, inhouse my whole career, but getting interesting offers from firms. There's much more for me to do at current place, unless multiple more senior lawyers leave. Offer I'm entertaining rn: AMlaw 200 brings me in as my class year w/promotion to Sr. Assoc in Jan 2022. Got on really well w/partners and Sr. assoc I interviewed with (we went over time). Pay/benefits decent. 1800 billables. I'll learn a lot more, do stuff I've never done and 🤞be a more desirable inhouse candidate.

My roommate has been offered a position with Deloitte and a similar position at PwC. Pay, benefits, location. Etc. is all as wanted for both. She wants to decide who to join. I am not pushing her to join PwC coz it would be a biased opinion - but anyone here with experience at both the firms, please share your insights. Thanks!

I’m currently a Chief of Staff (ignore post title) negotiating a new job title. The proposed from Co. that I’m working with is “Senior Manager” (mapped to “level 9”) with a lot following it to describe the team. Director is not allowable but could present “associate director”. Which carries more clout (“senior manager” vs “associate director”) at your org? Team involves digital strat, ops, implementation at well-known co and trying to reflect high level of the role but concerned SM mistranslates

One of my immediate family members had a stroke. Three days later a pipe burst at our house causing over $100k in damages and making our house unlivable. I was scolded for not meeting hrs over the last few months - billed 153 last month.
