Got a job offer at a mid tier firm in another city, somewhat lower cost of living, 15% bump with sign on bonus. I’m an A2. My only concern is that I’m taking a step back from big 4 and missing out on opportunities to learn. If things don’t go well is it easy to come back?

KPMG is a mid tier firm

You can learn more at a mid-tier firm if it’s a larger reputable mid-tier firm. In order to learn I say you want to work on clients with $50-$200M of revenue. Typically with that size you still get complex transactions but also get to work on the whole client and not just some sections. Also probably get to prepare FS which is huge.

Boomeranging is big, do what feels best, good luck!

As long as you leave on good terms. As in, do your work, don’t slack because you’re only on the hook for two weeks. If you browse through LinkedIn you’ll find a lot of people at a big four, to another job, back to big four

Just do it KPMG. I’m on the same boat.

Are they early promoting you to senior? Don't go unless you get a title bump too

Go if it feels right for you. You will likely be making more than your peers only until the promo. Then they'll even you out with a smaller % raise to align you with similar performers. Just a warning

First year M&A associate. I never came into big law wanting /expecting to gun or make partner, and first year pretty much confirmed that. I'm more than happy to leave for in house in 4-6 years and live a much more chill life. Knowing this, what is the best way to max out the $'s? I'm thinking of considering auto-lateral at year 2/3 and again at 4/5 just for the signing bonus (I know things may change and maybe I wouldn't do it if I loved my firm or got an in house job), but is this viable?

Started a new role within my org <1 year ago (been with the co several years) and have received incredibly positive feedback from many people about my performance so far, including my manager. I expressed my desire to revisit my compensation (off-cycle) because I am by all accounts exceeding expectations for my role and my manager was very supportive and encouraged me to provide them with a write up of what I want and why. Any advice? I’ve researched salary comps already

Have spent years building my career and moved to Canada 2 yrs back. Have changed my job once already to join big 4 but i am not happy at all, work is very demanding, people seems to be leaving all the time, managing clients and expectations and on top of that working with a couple very rude people….. i have spent a decade in taxes but never felt such burn out and intolerance for rude people… not sure if i am not suitable for job in Canada or just having really bad time for last few months.

Ladies, have any of you made the jump from big 4 manager to mid-tier firm and not regret it? I feel like my optuons in industry in my city are not ideal and wouldn't offer the same flexibility as PA. At the same time, the culture in my office has become too toxic and don't feel like my contributions matter at all. Also, not to mention the lack of business case.

For those of you that left big 4 accounting to do MBA, did you leave at Senior level (3-4 YOE) or at the Manager level (5 YOE). I would assume to leave at manager level would be more ideal as when you come back to the workforce you should at the very least be ready to come in at manager or above at your next job? Thoughts?

If you’re at B4, would you get any serious consideration at M7s if you tried to matriculate right when you hit the 3 year mark (apply at 2)? I hear that a lot of MBB people do this but the standard timeline for B4 seems to be to matriculate at 4 YOE.

How can I set the stage this year to negotiate a lower billable hours expectation instead of a raise? As a woman I'm hesitant to be open about my reason: I want more time at home with my kids. I lateraled to this firm a year ago for WLB and they are indeed flexible on WFH which helps. Salary is a bit below average for mid-size firms like mine in my area, and I didn't get a raise or bonus this year because I didn't hit the billable target (1900). Ideally I'd keep my salary but go to 1600 hours.

I have just completed my first of 12 CIMA exams and I can’t seem to motivate myself to study at the expense of my side hustle when I don’t see myself in Consulting long term. I know I will gain some valuable lessons from CIMA for future ventures but it is a 3 year qualification alongside a demanding job with minimal downtime. Should I try and qualify or focus on saving money and my side hustles? Also, do I need to qualify to work as a consultant in Big 4 or can I opt not to sit exams?

Ladies, I had a breakthrough with my boyfriend and I am so proud. I have encouraged him to go to therapy for years. He grew up with a father who is emotionally abusive. He felt like he didn’t need to go because he could just “handle it” (part of the toxic culture he was raised in) so I stopped pushing. Yesterday he told me he was going to therapy to try it out, I said okay, and made him a coffee to go. He came home, hugged me, cried, and read me a list of things he was working on. 🥺💛

How to deal with MIL and husband’s side of the family who will never fully understand that I’m just as busy and work just as much as my husband? Background: both in big law, both doing WFH. He’s more senior than me, his work hours are more constant; I’m a corporate attorney and my hours ebb and flow. I feel like his family doesn’t take my job as seriously (or when I say my hours are unpredictable and demanding), expects me to be both a housewife and work while doing WFH. Husband is great tho
