Got a job offer in another city at a mid tier, 20% pay bump. Currently an A2 in international tax at Big4 new position is in federal tax. Really torn about this move right now...I feel like there’s greater growth potential and the earnings in international tax appear to be higher.

P1 you are wrong at so many levels. Author, 20% seems high but you can easily get that when you move from one big4 to another while staying in international Tax. I agree with you that growth potential is higher in international tax. With elections upon us, the tax code is going to change again and will impact the international tax as well, which means more demand for what you do.
If money is the big motivator for you, wait a few more months and when the hiring freeze is over apply with another big4 and you can easily get the 20%. I was offered 20% to joint international tax and my background was a different tax group.

I’m in IT and I think there’s a high chance the workload will blow through the roof next year. IT is a good area but it’s very specialized and hard to get out of later on. A good rule of thumb is if you look at your managers or SMs, is there anyone’s job/role you could see yourself doing? If not, it might be good to think about pivoting to federal. There is typically more exit options.

I got to know someone thru work, and flirted a bit over 1 week. Then we never spoke again because of work geography. He reached out this week after 9 months+ asking for a visa sponsor to take a vacay in my country (given mobility restriction these days), and asked me to hook him up with a business visa referral letter thru my connections. He also said he’s coming with gf. I said im happy to write him a personal reference letter, but wont be able to get him a business one. Is this rude?

I got a call for a Java position. I told them I do not develop in Java. I do JavaScript with React. He says “oh yes, that is what the client wants”. So I sent my resume. When he sent the confirmation email it stated Angular/Java. I told him that I don’t have much Java skills. He then sent this (pic) as a response. 🤔🤔🤔
When I spoke to the client she had no idea why the recruiter added angular react as it was just a Java developer position, Completely wasted so much time

Im in a junior position, have excellent feedback, work hard. I make very little $. I had 2 job offers and told my current company I couldn’t afford to stay there. They immediately matched. 4 months later I followed up and the timing of the adjustment will now align with the timing cost of living increases for inflation which apparently I’m ineligible for. Should this exempt me from a cost of living increase due the adjusted salary 5 months after we agreed to this?

One of my friend is having 6 years of experience in .Net with Angular and he got 13.5LPA from FIS Global. He discussed with HR to revise his package and HR asked to share the salary expectation over the email.

Is it okay to send salary expectation on email and if okay then how much package he should ask either 15, 18 or 20? Please Suggest

I should add that salary bands are kept secret and I have no clue what the range for my position is. There are a decent amount of benefits in my position, the biggest being WLB, which is what has kept me here for so long. But I’m getting frustrated. What would you do?

Additional Posts in Accounting Exit Opportunities

Hey everyone! I am a CPA, started at PwC, now the assistant controller at a small/medium sized Ag company. Thus far, the plan has been to follow the CFO path. But recently I have been longing for more social/client facing interactions. I am very extroverted. I love meeting and connecting with new people and would like to incorporate that into my career. Any thoughts on possible career paths that would combine my experience in accounting with a more socially fulfilling job?

Thanks I’m advance!
