Read biographies of everyone from Abe Lincoln to Jack Ma/Malala. You will feel good, motivated and inspired.
I understand how many times these people failed and how they’ve overcome their failures. It’s easier to connect the dots looking back. Thanks anyways. I know you are right. I am just going through the 5 stages of grieving process except I sort of jumped to depression.
OP - not a reflection of you. It appears to me that Bain is the least willing out of MBB to look for external hires outside of undergrad and MBA routes.
I remember hearing something where it was stated that 40% of North American partners came in as an analyst and stuck it out all the way to partnership
Interesting to know. Thanks for the perspective
I got a final round rejection at Bain, first on site rejection from McKinsey, and a rejection at the pre interview stage from BCG. Full MBB rejection .
Staffing is very different. Those of us coming in from Advance degree background were told we could focus on healthcare or purposely not focus on healthcare ( for those who wanted to transition out of biomed) but in reality were all doomed to the whatever is available on pipeline. Mentor ship is also a lot less than what was advertised. This isn’t to say it doesn’t exist but a lot of it is self motivated and it’s difficult to get motivated when your working 80 hour week. Also I was told I’d be working 65 hrs/ week and a year in I’d say the average is closer to 70-75. I’ve definitely learned a lot at my time in the firm but the cost is a lot higher than I anticipated too 🤷♀️
Got a rejection after my final round last week too. Couple days down but life goes on. Chin up and keep going.
Sorry to hear. But good on you for moving on. Hoping I get over this hump. The news is fresh and it’s hurting more than I expected.
If it makes you feel better I got both McKinsey and Bain. Now I hate consulting and want to leave
😕 I wish you the best whatever you end up doing. In the meantime, I hope you get the right support within BCG. Ive been told support there is great, maybe I’ve been oversold? 😅
Think about why you wanted to work there. I mean the real reason. No, the real real real reason. Yep. Bet you can achieve that same goal working for another firm or a kickass company in the private sector. I’m telling you, it will happen.
I worked at a midsize firm before here. The differences are much smaller than I thought, and they’re a mixed bag of positives and negatives.
If you like where you are then stick with that! If for some reason you like consulting but think you’d like another firm better then by all means go for it but I wouldn’t put much weight on the brand. Culture and types of casework (both industry and function) can be meaningful differentiators though.
I guess my point is keep looking. This magic at mbb is way oversold so don’t think for a second you only have 3 options, it’s really closer to 300. I liked LEK and OW both better during recruiting and took bcg for the brand, which probably wasn’t smart. If you really like the core of consulting but want something different I’d go through every firm on vault and try to see if they match my interests and pick my 10 favorite and apply to all of them.
Did you apply through a referral you really made a connection with? Perhaps this is less a reflection on yourself, and just your application not falling into the right hands....just a thought!
And comes the rejection from BCG. 😞 gutted.
Got a rejection final round from BCG yesterday. Chin up OP, it is a relay not a race.
Multiple. At least a good 4-5 months.
Got rejected from McKinsey final round before winding up at BCG. Life goes on and it’s not the final destination anyway
Congrats on landing BCG. You are right, just wanted a small win (chance to interview at least).
Op, similar position here. Where did you finally end up given that this thread is a bit old? Hope you found something that you like.
Wow! This is a blast from the past.
First of, I am really sorry to hear that
Secondly, I moved to a different country - same firm 😅
