Got a verbal offer via phone call today. They stated the salary they would offer and told me there is a 90 day probationary period on the salary offered. As in we sit down and discuss whether the salary need to be adjusted at the end of the period. Is this a typical thing for firms? (For context—mid size Long Island). I just never heard of it and didn’t know that after 90 days I could either be paid more or (likely?) less.

Oh definitely. Most of my offers have been from NY/NJ Firms for commercial lit positions which are no brainers in that comparison. Some of the higher up LI firms aren’t bad as an option—especially a few years down the road—for someone trying to settle down in that area. But definitely not in this case for that Salary scale and weird probationary thing. Just struck me as suspicious

like

They lure you in with the carrot then they give you the stick.

Agreed!

As someone who has worked for mid-sized LI firms I’m SO curious about what firm this is lol

like

Maybe cullen and dykman

Agree you should run or check to see what the hiring longterm is like maybe at thr end of probationary period they fire ppl off to avoid paying an increased rate. There may be bodies buried if you search linkedin. I recently experienced this similar set up and will never take a similar type role it is total bs.

Currently making ~$300K TC in a strategy role. Was just offered a different role (account manager) in the same company with a slight increase in base salary and a 50% TC increase if I hit sales target (even base case would be ~30% increase in TC).

Have never really considered account management / anything with a sales target, but I like money.

TLDR: Getting over your ex of 2.5 years ghosting you after they said they wanted to reconnect.

I was dating someone for about 2.5 years and then we broke up because of COVID and the long distance was making it too difficult to continue. The break up must’ve been like a 4-5 minute FaceTime because I was very distraught. After we broke up, she started seeing someone else but I was heartbroken and it’s taken me over a year to really get over everything and process those feelings. (Cont.)
