Any RBP companies in Philly or remote hiring?
HI folks,
My current CTC is very low with respect to my YOE. CTC : 5.2 lpa
YoE : 4
Tech stack : Python , MLops
But now my manager has initiated H1B visa for me and the visa process is in progress.
Is it worth to wait till the H1B process completes to work in U.S (74k package) (or) should i make a switch immediately. ?

If they aren’t even willing to get close on the counter offer I would assume the only upward mobility is for your workload.
Pass. The commute isn’t worth a 100k job. Unless you plan on moving closer.
Is the 1.5 hour commute because of traffic or distance? I would be worried about some serious wear and tear on your car if you’re doing 100+ miles round trip per day.
Traffic, 40 miles (suburbs to inner city)
I'd try to negotiate the external offer down to 1 day per week or fully remote. Worth a try.
Thanks for input, tried that and they won’t budge on it, apparently Collabaration can’t happen remote lmao
I think this decision depends on how you feel about the commute. 9 hours of total commute sounds brutal. In your place, I’d look for other opportunities because clearly you’re valued so there shouldn’t be an issue finding something else that’s more suitable.
401k match is not a consideration. It’s entirely a tax write off for the company. I don’t invest in the company offered pretax 401k plan or recommend it to others unless my client is a business owner looking to save and build morale from the uninformed, none financially educated. There are way better options out there for a self funded retirement plan in my opinion. You end up paying it all back and more in taxes later. All you have to to use look at the historical tax rate to make an educated decision on that. Let the IRS tax my seeds today and never bother me for money never EVER again is my preference.
I lost brain cells reading this..
The key here is twofold:
- the commute is costly with gas prices and wear and tear (not to mention 9 wasted hours a week and the toll on your sanity in that much traffic)
- upward mobility is a HUGE factor. It may be a slightly lower salary now but if there’s no room to grow at the other place, it’s probably not the right move to progress your career.
Definite pass.
Not sure where you live but the difference between 82k and 100k after tax is probably negligible when you factor in your additional fuel, car maintenance and then food costs working away from home. Then consider is the extra money even worth the commute time.
