HSBC Results are out HSBC’s pre-tax profits almost doubled to $2.7bn in the final quarter of 2021 as the UK lender’s commercial banking revenues were buoyed by growth in credit and lending. The London-based bank said in an earnings statement on Tuesday that full-year pre-tax profits increased 115 per cent to $18.9bn, just missing forecasts of $19.1bn. Reflection of these results on employees : Single digit hikes even for top performers. Same scene continues from past 3 years now. HSBC
Some Sunday truth!!!
Does anybody have any advice when applying to postings with many applicants and getting noticed? The company I am interested in is Figma, and though I reached out to a few technical recruiters after applying through LinkedIn, I am wondering if there might be something more I could do that maybe I’m not thinking about. Also along those lines, if anybody here works for figma I would love the chance to connect

Agencies have grossly inflated titles. Like mine.
nailed it
There is nothing wrong with being a highly paid Jr. Vice President.
Peace
Brand side titles don’t really match at all. My last agency had 30 year old SVPs who managed two people while VPs where I am now oversee teams of 50+ and have 20+ years of experience.
I’ll add lots of tech companies have flat titles and then different levels within them. I have the same title as someone who worked as an ecd but I bet he makes like 100k more than me.
Look up the title on linkedin within that company and in the category and see how you compare. Brand side, at large companies, Director can be an extremely senior title. There are only 11 VPs total at Apple.
Congratulations on getting a job at Facebook.
I was in your situation not long ago. Got a real good offer, paid more than my agency salary... but the title was - no joke - “manager something something”. My ego was screaming noooooo inside my head. Could I go from a bigger title to a pretty much junior level title even if responsibility were the same as agency and money was BETTER? I literally couldn’t. I negotiated a better title and they actually thank me for bringing it up upfront.
Thinking about it now and I feel so silly but no regret. Not only my ego is happy but I just think it reflects my real R&R and helps the perception of others about me. More often than not the in house companies need guidance because it’s new to them.
I once asked a group of people which they would rather have: great money or great title. Everyone said money. In practice, people choose title too many times.
Really people choose not having it all. That is an option. Create and strategize. If that's what we do then why not also do it selfishly? Just sayin
I went from the high end of director to “Senior Manager” comp and responsibilities equate to Sr./group Director agency side. I miss the title but there are fewer layers here.
I once asked a group of people which they would rather have: a great title or great pay. All said great pay, yet we all worked at a place without great pay and used titles to make up for it.
I would less concerned about the title. You can always change it as your experience evolves
Remit and compensation. That's a that matters. Brand side titles are all out of whack.
You can also sometimes negotiate a different title. Especially if it’s a place that’s smaller and/or less structured.
Why can't you change the title
Olu, your naïveté and inexperience is showing. Large corporations have set job titles in their backend HR systems that correspond with benefits, salary and more. In most cases, it’s absolutely impossible to negotiate a title change... agencies allow for that flexibility as a perk to help employees feel important and that they’re making a difference (plus, as a way to differentiate in an agency FULL of just creatives - nearly singular function), since they aren’t seeing the salary, bonus and other benefits they would receive at a larger Corp; while corps are more standardized because there are so many more functions.
And you "should" be however you are. Create an enrolling reason to change the title. If it means that much to you. May not matter as much as you think.
