Got an offer from MBB, but I’d be starting fresh—no tenure. Are the exit ops worth me giving up 2 years of tenure?

I’m a second year, straight from undergrad 1. Exit/other ops I’m looking at ... Chief of Staff to the CEO of $10B+ company; VC Associate; likely promotion to manager in 1-2 months 2. On that last point, MBBs treat their rock stars very well ... looking at 150+ comp this year and like I said if I get manager at 23yo that would likely open more doors or take the 200+ comp next year as a 24yo... 3. Caveat being that this is not average but your initial two years give you a massive leg up against your competition so... yeah if I was you I’d probably take MBB

C2 - best of luck !!! Happy to hear that they are valuing you. I am a 10+ yr experienced manager in financial services. I have worked with two big-4 firms and now with accenture canada. I went to the best business school in my home country and was on track to partnership when i was with pwc there. Then i moved to Canada; took a hit but now back on track. I am a passionate consultant and thats why I want to work with the best. Got rejected couple times. Now trying to figure out the weak points in my profile and address them.

^ seriously, stop with the $5k hit. The salary curve is much steeper and this will work itself out in 5 minutes. Same with tenure relative to grad class. Totally irrelevant. My post-MBA start class had a 10 year spread of ages. You’ll be on the young end of that in 2 years when you’re promoted. I’m beginning to question your practicality...

like

Dude just go. You can always go back to Accenture if you don’t like the exit ops

We will miss you 👍

The comp should be. Every 2 years for us is a very meaningful bump.

like

Congratulations! Would take the offer in a heartbeat and not think twice about Accenture OP- do you mind sharing some stats? SAT, undergraduate ranking, etc. what do you think made you standout?

like

Is it more $? It is better job profile? Is it something you want to do? And 2 years tenure is nothing FYI

likesmart

BCG1 can you quantify the bump? What’s a typical annual raise & bonus plus the more significant increase every 2 years?

like

Salary info is readily available via google

like

Congrats OP! Would love if you could share a bit about your background and story to MBB - give us some hope :)

like

OP - the only reason I’m hesitant to say yes is because what’s right for everyone else doesn’t always mean that’s what’s right for you. Make sure this is the right next move.

smart

If in the US, your offer is for the same as everyone coming in at that tenure, so minimal negotiating (perhaps signing bonus or moving if those are applicable, but no movement on the base salary). 12 months (A2) brings a small tenure raise, not sure of %. At 18 or 21 months (I forget) there’s a significant bump and at 24 months you get the raise to C1 compensation which is nearly double A1 compensation and is the same as those exiting from MBA and starting at that tenure. Hope that helps!

Non promo years: 5-15%. Promo years: 25-35%. 2 year promo cycles until Principal.

like

M4- I think BCG1 means that OP clearly can’t calculate how minuscule the 5K difference is in the long run...

like

my main concern is, HOW will my exit ops compare in these 2 scenarios: 1) after 2 years of ACN + 2 years of BCG (assuming I leave at consultant level) 2) 4 years of ACN (leave with C2/almost manager position) 5k is no difference to me, was just answering someone’s post about getting a raise

like

$5k is a drop in the bucket in the grand scheme of thing. Your variable comp and signing bonus might make up for it. The $5k you “lose” you’ll make up for in regards to other qualitative benefits (e.g. mentorship and company resources, exit opps, “prestige”, and the network available to you). The network is what’s relatively invaluable; between current employees, MBB alumni, and clients.

like

OP - best of luck, go in there and rock. Exit ops will come on their own. Seriously I have been MBB dreaming/drooling for the past 10 years. Never even got any opportunity to hear the voice of the honorable recruiters. Outright rejection every single time ☹️
