What’s DRC?
The Congo
As someone who extensively travels internationally for work it could be a bit rough. You 100% need to make sure you are up to date on all shots, and do the full travel cocktail of pills and boosters. On top of that, the travel experience will be rough, and don’t expect nice accommodations by western standards. DRC is definitely bottom 1/3 in terms of safety, and western living standards.
I was there for a bit when working for the government about 15 years ago then left earlier than planned due to a bunch of kidnapping of foreigners, not looking to go back. In addition to vaccines ensure you understand the physical security measures in place. If you have a chronic medical condition you should seriously consider declining for that reason alone.
I do not recommend it at all for inexperienced international travelers but it will be a memorable experience if you go. Travel to less developed Africa is a very different ballgame from, say, an Eastern European country where you don’t speak the language- it’s much more challenging. It’s also quite a large country so I would hope you get to get out of Kinshasa - I didn’t as much as I’d hoped to. My verdict: it may be very rewarding but it probably won’t be for the faint of heart

A1 is a douche and is negative...
What’s that?
What for?
Mining blockchain
Yes!!
There’s a lot of conflict there now
@A1, do you have anything nice to say about the DRC at all to make your comment more balanced? Why all negative?
Check US State Dept country website for travel warnings or bulletins
The State Dept. says to Reconsider Travel. It’s a 3/4 on the danger scale. 4 is a definite Do Not Travel
Has the company sponsoring travel talked about security arrangements? Do you all have high risk insurance or services? AIG offers this stuff
I just think that we should be careful when offering one-sided views on countries. Africa is consistently portrayed negatively in the media and I would expect a bunch of educated, consultants to know better than to push only the negative bits about the continent and its countries....but A1 proving this wrong.
As someone who has say has traveled and lived in several African countries for extended periods of time, I'd say Africa overall is different from the US but don't let that scare you OP. The weather is great, the people are nice and welcoming, the food/accommodation is super affordable. Challenge yourself to leave your comfort zone and see how other parts of the world live. Take some precaution yes, i.e the vaccination, look up safety guidelines, but don't let an opportunity to see the world go by simply because of one's super one sided negative perception of the continent as a whole. The continent might surprise you!
Yes but the DRC isn’t like going to Morocco or Zimbabwe. There are armed militias fighting for control of natural resources. And those are the areas I’d be traveling to. I totally agree with your points though C1
Are guards provided?
Can’t argue with SSC 1, I am negative and asshole. But, I’m not wrong. There are wonderful places in Africa to go such as Senegal, Morocco, South Africa, etc. DRC doesn’t fall into that category. There are cultural divides for hospitality, but that’s something we can all deal with. The level of violence, is quite different and much harder to ignore. Much of Africa is advancing and becoming safer, however there are areas where that isn’t true. It would be fantastic if C1 would dial back the hypocrisy before going on a rant. As IBM mentioned if they are doing resource related scoping of mineral resources the chances are high they will be close to violent conflicts.
I imagine it would look amazing on my resume right?
