Got called out by a fellow associate for not “pulling my weight” on a deal when I’ve been drowning and billed 250 this month (buried in other deals) relative to their 160. 🤪

If the partners know about your workload then I wouldn’t worry about it. Either ignore the email or respond saying you were sorry again. Personally these things get under my skin so I would probably talk to the associate to let them know the situation. I feel that this almost always removes hard feelings. If the associate is an ass then definately ignore.

We are having difficulty with managing employee absences. Most seem as if they don’t care about termination. What have others done to motivate hourly employees to come to work? We have changed schedules, offered perfect attendance bonuses, replaced the points system, etc.

I saw that someone recently posted about sliding into DMs. I, 33M in NYC and also would love to know thoughts on this. I come across a lot of IG handles on Bumble/Hinge, I hate small talk, if I’m attracted to you I just wan to take you out and get to know you in person. Have ppl really had sliding into a girls DM and simply saying “drinks or dinner this week?”. Of course I get that she has to find you attractive and be mutually interested… but does a direct tactic like that work?

I am looking into starting my own firm with one other attorney. I have never been a partner or solo so I am trying to figure out best practices right now. I would appreciate any advice on starting up, things to avoid, preferred software, which gods to pray to, etc. The goal is to be virtual and to primarily do PI with a small amount of business services (my current book is mostly business litigation/contacts/outside counsel work).

Thank you all in advance! This is pretty daunting.

There is nothing more exhausting than figuring out how to tell your boss they’re wrong.

My boss happened to be wrong a lot this week, and I feel like I could sleep for a week. 😅🥲

So far, I’ve been posing my answer as a question to appear humble and also apologizing for confusion I didn’t create.

I hope it’s just Labor Day glitches and next week is better. ❤️ And, yes I’m neurodivergent.

Need advice. Am in the middle of parental leave right now and my spouse and I are on the brink of divorce. Have only this 1 kid. Spouse doesn’t work yet, but can with earning potential around $50k. I make around $450k. No way I’d keep this job if divorce happens. I’d eventually transition in house so I can take care of my kid when I have him, but that won’t be immediate. How will custody work in that case? I want joint, but how do I take care of him alone with this job in the meantime?

Anyone else just sitting around waiting for the ax to drop? I'm a soon to be 2nd year corporate associate who has seen work completely dry up. My utilization held pretty steady around 50% immediately after shutdown, but August was below 15 billables with no appreciable work in the pipeline. Aside from letting people know I'm available and doing pro-bono/CLE, it's starting to feel like a serious "covidcation" leading to termination.

Is it okay that I’ve been a slow junior as we’re hours away from closing?
