Does anyone have any advice for corporate juniors who were unexpectedly laid off? I thought juniors would be the last to go because of our billing rates.

Job transition question: I recently accepted an offer for a new role with Merrill Lynch, the following day I was fired from my previous employer. I haven’t filled out the updated work history background check info yet. The reason for termination was due to performance expectations not being met. Should I reach out to my new employer and let them know that I’ve been terminated? Should I just put the termination update on the background check form and leave it at that? Wondering what I should do.

Can anyone honestly say if the CPA is necessary or not? I’m burnt out from undergrad and grad school and can’t see myself studying for the CPA for a while…but don’t want to get fired. I don’t plan on staying until Manager, hoping to move into IB.

Recent graduate was laid off, have applied to dozens of jobs and still have been unable to land an offer. I interview well have a strong resume. Very concerned I might not get hired. Any advice, tips or general comments are welcomed.

One thing I struggle to remind myself of is you can only lose so much from a bad investment but gains from a good investment are (sorta) unlimited. If your starting position is $10,000 and the value halves, you're down $5,000. But if the value of a separate position doubles, you're now up a total of $5,000.

I think learning this will help me reach my FIRE goals by eliminating a lot of emotion and impulse in my investment decisions.

What other "life lessons" do any of you have?

If you request unemployment between the offer and starting, do you not receive the benefit? Worried about stating I've received an offer and that I'm no longer looking, though my new employer is the one having me wait a few weeks.

What would you do? I was recently reached out to by an exec I worked for at another agency. He’s at a new agency and looking for an EA to assist him, the new president and another exec. However the agency itself is not doing well- no new biz wins, big layoffs recently, terrible reviews on Glassdoor. I like my current agency enough, however, very much don’t like the 2 execs I assist. Would you go rather work for good execs at a bad agency? Or stay at a decent agency but awful execs?

Is it safe to join CISCO? I have heard the layoffs happens there yearly.

How do the tech layoffs impact other companies?

Please, I am looking for ideas to motivate a virtual class. We want to set up a rewards program. However, we don’t want to reward for what the are supposed to complete. We’re looking for above and beyond. Example; helping a fellow student with technical support. We also thought of homework passes & lunch with a teacher, because we are a virtual school independent study program. We see students for a short amount of time on zoom. It takes a lot of work to set up the videos and lessons.

Anyone who can recommend a driving school/package? I can see several websites such as Passmefast and Red Driving school, so not sure of how to select. I am a beginner so ideally I’d like some theory and many hours of driving lessons. I am based in East London. Cost is also a factor… the prices here are extortionate compared to my home country.
