Got hired by an established local business to be their HR Generalist. They expanded in the last two years and are now hiring HR to have the infrastructure in place to expand again. What advice or resources would you recommend for building an HR department?

Join SHRM if you haven’t already. They have great resources and templates. You can also sign up for email notifications to keep you in the loop of compliance changes. Create a compliance calendar for when all reports are due. Build a strong HRIS. It will be extremely helpful if they are experiencing or anticipate experiencing fast growth. Start an HR manual for your department by keeping an ongoing Google doc of how-to do the daily processes in your department. I like to write out the steps and take screenshots. It makes it easier for when you hire someone new and need to train. You can do it as you go along so it’s not a huge time or energy burden. Establish KPIs from the beginning so you are able to show the value to management. Good luck!

Will it be too high salary to ask for a Manager(M2)-Data Analytics position in Deloitte Consulting UK?
If no, then will it be good enough for 3 people to lead a decent life in London (Like Hounslow or Milton Keyes) including a 2 year old kid. Traveling to London on daily basis.
If yes, then kindly suggest a reasonable salary range for this role.

Are aggressive non-competes show stoppers for direct admit partners at MBB & T2? I'm a partner at a small boutique firm and we have very tight non-competes. Biggest issue is a 9 month period before starting new role at competing firm. I'm being recruited by a few firms. The recruiters seem to think it's a non issue but wonder if when it gets to offer stage it becomes a show stopper when partners realize I may not be able to start for 9 months. How do your firms handle these situations?

Did anyone have an opportunity to make a career pivot but turned down the opportunity, and regretted later? Or was the absolute right decision? I have an opportunity to switch careers. I’m already in a good role (managing an analytics team at an established pre-ipo tech firm) and started here 5 months ago. But I’m wanting to try something else (product management). I got an offer from a startup to try out the role but am scared I might fail at the role or the startup (series A) will not do well

Hi Fishes, I've got offers from BNY Mellon and Siemens and I'm confused about which organization to join.
BNY is offering me 26LPA (they don't have a variable component, instead they have a bonus component that is not fixed) and QA Lead position and Siemens is offering me 29LPA (total CTC is going 32.8LPA including variables) fixed and the position is Senior Test Engineer.
Please suggest which company will be better to join?

Any thoughts on the best certifications to get in order to help move forward? I have considered the CCP from World at Work, but it’s fairly pricey to get by the time you wrap up everything. I was looking at both SHRM-CP and SPHR. Everyone that I have spoken to has the SHRM, but that’s also only looking at individuals in a small geographic footprint and within 3-4 different companies. I was hoping to get some thoughts on this from others? Thanks

Boss has WFH for 9months. I have been WFH for 2-weeks for travel quarantine/state guidelines. She now requires that I go back to the office to “show face” that HR is right alongside the essential employees. I have been more productive from home vs the office. I get the perspective of team unity, but is it wrong to feel there is no reason to risk my health? The company justifies increasing my covid risk (high-risk already) to “show face”, when my job is being fulfilled while WFH. Am I crazy?

SPHR exam- has anyone ever been “randomly selected” for an application audit? This just happened to me and the sheer amount of effort that is going to go into collecting all the documents almost makes me not want to follow through. Since I didn’t finish undergrad, they’re asking for a copy of my high school diploma or transcript and that itself is going to be an absolute nightmare to get hold of. Guess I’m not really looking for a solution here, just venting.

Hello fellow HR pros! I really need your opinions on HR certifications. I am deciding between PHR and SHRM-cp. I have read just about all there is online comparing the two and can not decide. My heart is telling me PHR, my mother in law (an HRBP) is telling me to go with SHRM, as it’s more widely recognized, more established and a larger network in general. I work for a 350~ company who is growing rapidly through M&A. Passions/interests are compliance, strategic vision, M&A, branding and culture
