You might want to research FIRE. We have a bowl here, but you can find a lot on the internet or Reddit. I save 50% of my salary on average and hope to “retire” early by being able to take any job without consideration for pay. My goal is to do this by 45.

Great summary by SC1. There all kind of approaches, from Lean FIRE (having enough money to cover basic needs) to Fat FIRE (living the baller life). It all comes down to managing your finances wisely and consciously and make the money work for you.

Balance saving for tomorrow with enjoying today. I've witnessed far too many family members and family friends work like crazy just to pass right as they hit retirement.

smart

Sound advice...I've seen people like this not even make retirement.

Stop spending money. Find excuses to save more. By far the number one way.

Had a near death experience myself with Covid, out for 3 months and when I came back to work I realized it was bs. Reevaluated and have moved on to another job. Retirements isn’t there for me yet but I understand where you’re coming from.

We coulda died with a Lambo or a Corolla and either way we coulda ended up the same way. Focus on things and expenses truly important and only splurge on things that make you happy.

If you are laid off due to COVID and on h1-b visa, would you disclose to the new employer in the initial interview phone call itself about your exact situation i.e., laid off due to COVID and have only 60 days grace period left to file a h1-b transfer in order to continue stay in the US? Please provide suggestions.

Here are the official Coronavirus guidelines:
1. Basically, you can't leave the house for any reason, but if you have to, then you can.
2. Masks are useless, but maybe you have to wear one, it can..

I feel like in order to do well at my job I have to mentally shut down. Even with covid I can't handle all the work politics and mental gymnastics required to do the most basic stuff, esp as a woman. The longer I work the more I realize career progression is determined by how much your managers like you/perceive you, not whether you work hard. I haven't been able to get another job offer but I just want to be out of here 😔

Delta was the best airline to travel pre-covid and all the more now. They are cleaning every aircraft by fogging, disinfecting all surfaces after every flight, filling upto 60% in coach and 50% in first class - no middle seat assignment unless you are a family and want to be seated together and mask mandatory on all flights unlike AA or United

I was suppose to go on a date, but he did something that made my spidey-senses go off so I decided to stalk him on a state court database.

Found out he was divorced (meh), had a restraining order against him, was sued by his attorney, and was found guilty of 3 counts of sexual assault, including rape in the 2nd (she was incapable of refusing).

I told him I felt I might have Covid to get out of the date and then ghosted his ass. No regrets.

I went from low job satisfaction (before COVID), to zero job satisfaction, to now job creating negative life experience. In old days of travel, I enjoyed travel itself, client and team interactions which offset some job aspects I did not enjoy. Do you feel like all you do is work now?

Has anyone ever shit their pants at work or on the way to/from work? I’ll go first... Was on my way to my buddy’s place for post-work dranks when I got the sudden urge to poo. Stuck in rush hour traffic I started sweating. Fast food places were not allowing people inside (only drive thru during peak covid) so I drove around looking for bush to shit in. Found a house with no lights on and nice bushes out front and pulled over. (Cont’d in comments)

Curious how to transition into PE firms and if MBA would be beneficial at all. Currently been in M&A tax (doing tax DD, structuring and modeling) at a big 4 serving PE clients for ~4.5 years and up for manager. Feel tax is not as important in deals and want to get to the front end.

I’m a CPA and plan on studying CFA as well. Appreciate any feedback/advice, thank you!!
