This one struck me as the team outsourcing work. I already told the recruiter that I’d be happy to do an in person case, but wouldn’t be able to produce a well thought out framework and deck for this case.
Very common, I have discussed this with a few of my friends, some cases seem to be extreme. I had one that took me three days to finish.
If this prevents you from having to deal with trivia or white boarding exercises, this could be a good trade off. At least you are getting evaluated on your ability to solve an actual tangible problem, and on your actual practical skills.
While the candidates’ time is valuable, so is the interviewers’. This could be a strategy for their team to shield themselves from « serial interviewers »

Yes very common. I have enjoyed it as a candidate tbh - helps you get insight into the problems you would deal with. I honestly don’t know why a company would outsource actual work to a candidate
I like giving job tests because it evens the playing field between candidates with and without academic credentials and you can't get by on charisma alone. That said, I've only ever drawn from already solved problems and plan for them to take only up to a day, half a day for most.

Happy to take a SQL test and do an analysis, but I'm not building anyone a framework for free. Get outta here with that, hiring managers
Project based interviews are increasingly common. I hope companies have a policy that they can't just take your work and use it for free...
