Without gettin an MBA you’re probably looking at a Business Analyst/Analyst role. An MBA is a large differentiator in role, and YOE outside of consulting are heavily discounted. Applying now wouldn’t hurt your chances post MBA though. Would you choose MBB over MBA?

Do an M7 MBA. You’ll learn a lot from recruiting process, have a cohort to join in with, potentially faster upward track with the MBA + you can explore other career choices and get another chance to save yourself from the hell that is MBB 😂

You’ll come in at the Post MBA level via bschool, no negotiation McKinsey - Associate BCG - Consultant Bain - Consultant You’re guaranteed the post MBA role if you get the MBA (and if you get the offer of course). But if you try to go direct they might make you start out at entry level (level below what I listed)

like

Post MBA level most likely. The only way you’d come in as a MBB Manager post-MBA is if you were a manager at the same MBB pre-MBA

I was in the same place in terms of YOE and joined as an experienced hire A1 (entry level) at BCG. My view was its worth applying and if I didn’t make it i could apply again in an MBA. But if you do make it you can potentially skip an MBA (not required for promotion) or get sponsored. So it’s either 2 years of MBA and then you join as a C1 (with debt potentially) or 2 years working as an A and then you’re promoted to C1 (debt free but probably tired). I may still take some time off for a grad degree down the line.

You come in as “consultant” or “associate”, they are different titles for the same role, depending on the firm.

Yes try now before commuting to MBA.

Thanks for the perspective everyone! If I don’t get an offer when I apply now, would that hurt my chances of getting an internship as a first year MBA student? That would be less than a year from now.
