I'm sorry. It's so rough. There's a whole genre of TikTok/Youtube videos that walk you through how others are handling this. I actually found a Reddit thread the other day dedicated to this.
For what it's worth, a friend of mine got laid off a month and a half ago. Scored a new job pretty quickly and then his family took an epic two week vacation in the interim. It was scary, but they definitely landed on their feet, and I'm sure you will too!
Don’t wait to file unemployment. You can get unemployment while you’re getting severance. It’s easy and it’s done online. I got laid off 18 months ago after 21 years at the same company. Totally blindsided. Take a few days off and job search full time. Best of luck!
So true....wow!!! Your statement bought me back.
Prayers sent I quit my crappy job a year ago got a job as a practice manager 3 weeks later and got my MBA in health information systems I did get fired from a job once as company was going bankrupt I'd been th wr e 7 years. I worked two jobs then was a bar manager and a secretary at another hospital pt till I finished my first ba had tiny apt car payment etc lived on Ramen and saved for a year. Get more college it will help I got my MBA at 52.
Hey there, first breath, take 2-3 days to get over the shock, rest, relax and consider your next .ove, pray about it. I understand I was laid off in January. It will all work out for your good. Love & Light 💚💚 Vern
Did you land back on your feet? How long did it take?
Don’t sit back on your laurels! The #1 golden rule for recently unemployed individuals is to remember that when you’re jobless, your job is finding another job. Keep applying to various job boards and persist in your job search efforts. When you receive an interview invitation, take the time to write down the questions and thoroughly study them. Remember, there’s no such thing as losing; it’s all about learning and growing. Good luck on your job search journey!
Make sure you apply for unemployment as well
Sorry, it’s tough. Rant and get it out. So many emotions will come through and a lot of “what ifs”. Be kind to yourself - the journey isn’t easy and change is difficult - make the most out of it and network.
Sorry to hear about that :( Where were you laid off from, what kind of work did you do, etc?
Agency ads.
Sorry you are going through this.

How can you have a 4-hour daily commute? I would last about a week if I had to commute for 4 hours a day. Except for a sales role I would never last at a role that required me to drive 2 hours each way.

This was in the Audit Bowl and not sure what line you’re in, but, you never know 🤷🏼♂️
Hang in there! If you’re not on LinkedIn already, maybe try to jump in there and post some of the highlights from your work and search relevant recruiters at places you want to work at.
I lost job mid Feb and found end of April! A much better role on all levels. Hope that helps give hope.
Way back when I was working for a large law firm in the local area, a close friend was separated due to a reduction in force. She had just finished her first year as an associate attorney and decided to get a degree in teaching and make a career change. She never looked back and is very happy in her new field. I’m not suggesting that you need to do anything drastic if you’re happy, and yet saying that it’s an opportunity to evaluate your options. Hope all works out for you.
Have you thought about becoming a fundraising agent for charities?
6 weeks severance is very nice. I got 2 weeks!!!

I’m sure OP is thrilled
Sorry to hear. Do what you have ro do. I agree w person about unemployment I think for some that do not document or know how some businesses work a d life always do whats riight and document. Which maked unemployment cases easy to win even " at will" states that fire or lay off. Esp if your a targeted group. Instead of spending time doing that right away be crearive any money is better than none. Get out of your box work anywhere. Or school if an option. Fundraise, start your own business cleaning some easy skill set and start keeping track abide the laws and move forward. I have never accepted unemployment only bc you dobhave to pay it back. I have accepted a settlement not large just was their first offer after trying to rehire me 3x. Once you realize your in control and clocking in somewhere is honestly if a creative person mundane and everyone has it in them. Work hard and easier said then done butet it roll off your shoulder screw being depressed be relieved that they didnt waste anymore of your time. Also why care about any company that does not care aboit you. Or give it to god get your money but have a rep or free atty eveb help you so you dont get bogged down w thd unfortunate neg bs bc if you take care of a family they depend on you. So show them when life gives you lemons how to make 20 lemonade stands. Dont wollow its like a rocking chair your moving but going no where. Im not saying its not sad but you should have confidence in yourself to know they lost out not you. You got this. And it sucks when ppl loose jobs and cannot find other ones. Luckily if it happens to me i make it happen idk exactly how im pretty sure its my mindset, which is probably why i got canned a few times. I reflect. Use what i learned but always always document EVERYTHING iij life ppl are a holes but usually not privy to llaws how they work and they definitely sat and discussed in some place that you didnt either less risk for them so peshaw. Start a dog walking business . A coffee shop mobile cheap start up. Reach out if its bad. But dont stop everyday create a few tasks....even like fold my socks and get uo and complete them just kerp moving and block out the encouragement if handed to you w warning of how hard everything is. Its whst you make it. Also enjoy th time you do have if you can . Sometimes when things like this happens other doors open. Stay positive and good luck
I just went through something similar to you. I was laid off at the beginning of the year and escorted out of the building. Please take a day or two to decompress and start sending out your resume.
I am so sorry to hear this. I was laid off during Covid so I know exactly how you are feeling and how scary that unknown is. I would suggest starting to apply and try to find other roles now because the job market is rough. You definitely want to start your search sooner rather than later.
I've been laid off a few times. It sucks, but honestly, each time I came out of it in a better situation (everyone told me this, and I didn't believe them until I saw it for myself). Two things I would recommend:
1) Another poster said this, but it's worth repeating - apply for unemployment now. Don't wait for severance to run out. It takes time for the state to do this so don't wait.
2) If you own a home, arrange for a HELOC. You may never need to access the money, but it sure helps to sleep at night knowing you won't starve. Time is, as they say, of the essence because the bank hasn't yet heard the news that you're unemployed.
