Got laid off and now I'm having a hard time finding a new job. Seems like none of the recruiters want to help me since I got laid off. Any tips? 😔

Also - no idea why KPMG 1 feels the need to slam another firm in this post. Just because some people leave Big 4 doesn't mean they are a low performer. There are a lot of reasons - but I'll stop here since the intent by the OP was to ask a question and get substantive help.

KPMG acting all high and mighty like they aren't the bottom feeders in most cities lol. Wake up and realize nobody cares about where you worked in PA, it's all about how you are as a person, who you know, what you know (in that order). At the end of the day we're all just cogs in the machine and we'll all die alone

Good luck OP! It's always darkest before the sunlight.

Lots of folks that are laid off get placed by recruiters. Hang in there. ProTips: (1) make your LinkedIn look terrific (2) develop your network and let folks know your looking (3) check the "Careers" page of the websites of companies you want to work for and (4) consider mid-tier firms. It's a journey.

KPMG 1 - people with condescending attitudes like yours are exactly why I chose to leave KPMG. Always top ratings, never on a PIP, several promotions - my personal experience, not observations. However, while I could share a number of incredibly negative things that happened during my several years of experience at your firm, I won't. That's not the point of this post. You must be in a very small city to be privy to the information on "every single person in your office" who got on a PIP.

Try applying for a job at your old clients. Be sure to let them know that you used to audit them. I have seen this work well for several people who were laid off.

What was reason for layoff (think about - don't need to share). I was laid off once due to cuts but was still re-hireable by the firm. Could have moved to a different region but left and came back later. That is different than lay off for performance. If you are re-hireable be sure to stress that to recruiter. If lay off for performance it will be a harder sell. Maybe a regional firm or industry?

like

Don't say you got laid off, no-one can check anyway. Just say you are not a good fit at EY and you want a change.

Impressive vocabulary, KPMG 1. Also nice way to backtrack when you know what you meant by your original post and we all do too. Make an insult, get all irritated when someone calls you out on said insult, and follow up with another insult and tell the person who called you out to chill out. Maybe take some time to be more thoughtful in your responses if you feel they are misconstrued. OP - good luck to you in finding a new position. There are plenty of firms out there and no one has to know you were laid off.

Did they give you time to find a new job or were you on a pip? We always give people at least 30 days before termination and during that time you don't have to tell people you are getting laid off. Typically its pretty easy for you to go to a smaller firm. Places like mcglardey love taking low performers from big 4...at least that's what I have observed. If you are still at ey on payroll don t tell anyone you are getting laid off nobody needs to know that and there is no way for them to check.

I just went through the same situation. Was laid off after busy season. I've had a lot of success since then so listen up... 1) 100% be honest. People understand that layoffs are part of public accounting. It really is no big deal. "I was laid off after busy season and now I'm actively looking for a permanent role where I can continue to learn new technical skills" <-- that line has been gold for me. 2) Make this a full-time job and you will be so busy taking in interviews. Get AT LEAST 10 recruiters (yeah I know that this seems like a lot... but believe me you need at least 10. A lot will seem promising but won't come through for you). It's a numbers game. 3) In addition to recruiters, I've had a ton of success applying on indeed and LinkedIn. Good luck!

What LOB? Want to stay in PA? Want to stay B4?

The firm's name is RSM now, but whatever. It depends on the state, but in general most employers won't give a reason for termination. They will simply confirm that you worked there. If you're still on the payroll, it is usually not a problem.

Whoah slow down captain mcglardey...like i said its based on personal observation. There was a 2 year period where every single individual in our office who got put on pip ended up with the rsm office in the same city

like

Rsm1...chill out. This was for the benefit of the OP and you are hijackijng it because you are all butthurt over what I said. Again big office based on observation. It was only to inform OP that smaller firms love taking staff and seniors from big 4 and he/she might have a good shot there.

they gave me four weeks of severance. so i can just tell people i'm still working at EY? can't companies check?

Figured I'll ask if anything's changed, if it's even worth ... considering.
