Mass layoff has started?
Hello,
I have an accepted offer from Amazon with start date early next month. With the hiring freeze in place I am worried that layoffs will be next and new hires are more at risk when it comes to layoffs. This is making me wonder if it is good time to switch. Would really appreciate some input in this matter.

I know some people make more than their day job by day trading.
Yea but most people lose money. Too risky
do you really not like working for a big company or do you just not like working in accounting? that has an impact on what advice is worthwhile here.
then you have to accept that it may be time for a full on career change. you’re never so deep that it’s too late. a public accounting background is a great entry into many consulting firms. learn more about how various industries conduct business. find something that gets you excited.
or just go back to school if you can afford it and have an idea of what kind of future you want. for me this is a second career already that i made possible by getting an accounting degree several years post undergrad.
I had the same thought after a rough year. Not laid off yet but was put on a PIP after working my ass off for three years. I'm feeling used and finding it very hard to get motivated to do anything now. I think so much about just doing something I like instead of being miserable for money, but it feels like it'd be crazy to flush 5 years in school and two degrees down the toilet. Glad I'm not alone.
Wow. I was in banking then switched to insurance now going to asset management. What does independence do?
Read rich dad poor dad. Use a job the fund your assets so that you can generate income and not be dependent on a company.
Yeah - working for a company may not be the most enjoyable thing do to, but you gotta pay your bills and survive. Do i like public accounting? No. Am i passionate about it? No. But hey - a job is a job, and I gotta support myself. Sometimes you have to do things you don’t enjoy (i.e. work) to get the benefits and do things you actually enjoy (i.e. have an income to live, travel, do things).
